We booked this hotel through hotels.com because they had a special 3 night discount (we paid for 2 nights, and got the 3rd night free). The rate included parking and taxes and totalled about $460 USD for the 3 nights. The hotel has 32 rooms that vary from small - about 150 sq/ft. (the room they gave us) - to about 400 sq/ft.
The room was on the cramped side, but it was well appointed and the design was thoughful. Two beds were made up as one and there was about 4 ft of room on each side and about 5 feet of space at the foot of the bed. The bathroom was especially cramped. The door was probably 20" wide and the space between the toilet and the wall (as well as the sink and the wall) was less than 2 ft. This meant that if one of us used the sink, the other couldn't pass behind. The shower was adequate, but tight as well (probably a 30"x30" base).
The front desk staff was friendly. Vincent was particularly helpful with local restuarants. We made one mistake likely as a result of jet lag. We assumed that breakfast was included in our rate and ate at the empty (but lovely) hotel restuarant. The bill with tax was 39 euros for two. Not worth the money under any circumstances. We recommend one of the local cafes where the price of coffee and bread for two is 8-9 euros. At one, l'Industrie, there's free WIFI if you have your own computer. The hotel is connected but sells cards - 5 euros for 45 minutes and 12.50 for 120 minutes. (There's no WIFI in the rear buiding - see below.)
The hotel is comprised of 2 buildings and they aren't connected. We stayed in the older but modern (rear) building. The hotel grounds are gorgeous. Lots of green lawn and lovely plantings, and a beautiful pool. Of course, in November it's hard to take advantage of the outdoors. (The pool is not heated and therefore unusable.) Many of the hotel indoor facilities are closed as well. For example, the ground level of the rear building is a spacious, well designed bar-cinema that you work through on the way to your room, but it doesn't function off season and some may find this depressing.
We always prefer to book a hotel directly because we've found hotels to be more responsive when we've done it that way. But the 2-for-3 night special was not advertised on the hotel's website. We should have contacted them and asked for the same rate. They were only 10-15% occupied and I know they would have honored the hotel.com rate had we emailed them. More importantly, I'm sure that had we booked directly we would have been upgraded. I don't understand why in the off-season hotels don't make it a practice of upgrading everyone - regardless of how they booked. It seem to make good business sense to try and maximize satisfaction and have guests "spread the word" about a propety. In our case, a larger room would have increased our level of satisfaction and the way we've rated the hotel in this review.
