Lovely hotel, great location, everything was perfect.
Hotel Les Figuiers deserves another star, and I hate to say it, is probably under-rented. It certainly is underrated. One of the other reviews used the perfect word to describe this place - manicured. Everything is well designed and balanced. The room smelled like fresh paint, and everything felt brand new. We stayed in the Provencal suite, one of the less expensive rooms due to its location off the main walkway. Nonetheless, it had everything we needed - wonderful stone tiled shower, large bathroom, queen bed, huge french doors, and exposed limestone walls.
The back garden where most of the rooms (and fig trees) are located is gorgeous. It reminds me of a southern california spa hotel, if anything. Very peaceful and relaxing. If you can, book one of the rooms there with private decks overlooking the garden.
The breakfast at the hotel was fabulous. It held just off the reception in a room filled with paintings by an artist who apparently works in the hotel's studio (painting workshops are offered to guests). It makes for a great setting, and the place had the best breakfast anywhere we've been in europe. Every day was a different offering, with freshly pressed juice, fresh fruit, and local yogurt/fromage blanc, and some of the best coffee I've ever had. If fact, we wished they had offered more than continental breakfast, as it no doubt would have been wonderful.
Overall, no question this was the best place we stayed. The efforts of the owners to create a unique experience is clearly evident. The website really does not do it justice, and I suggest that they re-do it. Please stay here and give it a try.
Note - our experience was no doubt enhanced by Saint-Remy itself. This was the nicest town we saw in provence. It's bright, clean, beautiful, and not overrun by the tourist infrastructure that has spoiled Avignon and others. The farmer's market on wednesday is a delight.
