I stayed here with my mum for 5 nights in July. We found the hotel to be in a great location in Annecy - just a minutes walk from the old town with its numerous pretty canalside restaurants, and as we arrived by train only a few minutes walk from the railway station - there is no noise from the station though as it's a couple of streets away.
The hotel has a small bar downstairs by the reception area, although we never saw it used as everyone just walked to other bars / restaurants in town. The hotel lift is tiny, but it is good to have one as there are 7 floors with about 8 rooms on each floor. Some of the rooms high up and at the front of the hotel have better views, others overlook the buildings nearby. Hotel reception staff were friendly and helpful.
Our twin room was more spacious than expected and the soft furnishings were modern while the fixed furniture slightly more dated. Everything was very clean and linen on the beds was changed each day. The bathroom was spacious and very clean, although tiles were a bit dated but that didn't bother us at all. Air conditioning in the room and big windows. There was a fridge minibar in the room with enough room to store your own drinks and also the room had tea and coffee making facilities - not that common in french hotels.
Breakfast is self service with a wide variety of food including - rolls, cereal, fruit, cold meats, croissants, pastries, and hot food as well so there was plenty of choice. The juice was all Tropicana which was a nice touch.
Annecy is beautiful with lots to do including boat trips on the lake and swimming and pedalos to hire too. We found several good value restaurants where we had a meal for two people including a fair bit of wine for under 30 Euros for both of us.
We intend to return to Annecy and would happily stay at the Carlton again.
