We loved this hotel. The rooms are a good size, comfortable even with a roll away for a third person. The hotel is conveniently located, an easy walk to any desired location in town. The beds are very comfortable and the robes are a nice touch. The views of the mountain are somewhat obstructed by trees and other structures, but amazing views even if you have to stretch a little for the reward. The front desk was very helpful. We watched a few movies one tired evening (free at the front counter). We also borrowed a wine opener more than once. I wish this hotel had existed 10 years ago when I visited Chamonix. If you don't have a ton of luggage, and or it's not too cold, walk to and from the train station (it's close at approx 4 blocks and will save you a $30 cab ride). Email the front desk for walking directions before you arrive, as you can get turned around if it's your first time in this charming village. Our only complaint was the early morning maid service noise. The vacuum sound can carry to nearby guest rooms and be particularly bothersome to those travelers trying to sleep past 8a.m.Our favorite meal in Chamonix was Chinese food at Chez Yang (an easy walk from the hotel). Overall, a great visit. We'll be back!

Just back from 2 days at this hotel in chamonix. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The setting is beautiful, we could see the mont blanc from our window. Chamonix is a lovely place. The hotel is right in the centre of the town, near all the bars and restaurants. We really enjoyed our 2 nights there. We'd definitely go back

Myself and my (new) wife had the pleasure to stay in this hotel twice as part of a European honeymoon we recently had which involved stays in France and Italy.

The Grand Hotel des Alpes is smack bang in the middle of Chamonix, you could not get more central. It has its own underground car park, for which I believe there's usually a 16 euro per day charge - we weren't charged this though.

We selected a room with a view of Mont Blanc, which had a balcony above the river which runs through Chamonix, and great views to the glacier and peak itself. We stayed in a different room on each of our two stays (rooms 408 and 102) and both were excellent. On the first night of each stay we were also treated to a complimentary bottle of Champagne and chocolates, although I don't know whether this was because the staff knew we were on honeymoon; either way it was a great touch and made us both feel really special.

The hotel has a complimentary health spa which has swimming pool, jacuzzi, steam room and sauna - a great way to relax after a hard days walking in the mountains!

The best part of the hotel however is the staff. They were really courteous and kind to us and always had a smile. From meeting us in the downstairs car park to checking us out a day early due to our early morning departure, they really couldn't do enough.

Please note that the hotel only has a breakfast room, no restaurant for evening meals. This isn't a problem though as there are loads of great places to eat in Chamonix.

Overall, if you want to spend a bit more money for a special treat, I don't think you can get better for your money in Chamonix. We'll definitely be back.
