We stayed at this hotel as I had heard of it, and thought it had a good reputation. The plus points: it is conveniently located, the service is good, and it is a definitely a unique, beautiful setting. But I found a lot of the decoration had been done on the cheap, and everything looked tired. The painting was chipped everywhere, in the bathroom the sink, bath and towel rails had been covered in a cheap shade of grey by a nasty paint job. Somehow it felt like a 90s vision of modernity, totally outdated, and that did not fit in well with the frescos and the setting of this historical building.
The front office staff was also too pushy. From our arrival on, they tried to sell us a spot in the parking lot at 35 euros per day, every time we set foot in the hotel - and we discovered later that parking was free in town for the entire month. Not good! Plus they pushed to sell the breakfast too, in a way that was not subtle. Somehow, it did feel like they were trying to be exclusive, but that when you looked carefully, everything was a little ordinary and cheap. Shame!
