Hotel du Simplon has an excellent location, about a block away from Lyon Perrache train station. We arrived in another train station and took the cheap/regular/easy to use Lyon Metro from our station to Perrache and used this metro stop to get around the city during the weekend. We easily walked to Place Bellecour, and it was a bit of a hike to Vieux Lyon, to St. Jean and to Fouviere (would have been easier with the metro or trams). Our room was on a quiet back garden and we had soundproof windows and slept like babies. The room was small, normal for France, but newly renovated. The bed was very comfortable and firm. We had a tv in our room. The bathroom was a cramped all-in 1 plastic unit that would have as easily fit in an RV, but it was clean and new. Breakfast (hot drink, baguette, jam, butter, croissants) was typically french and in the sunny and homey breakfast room at the hotel, 6 euro a person. The owner was very friendly and suggested museums and shopping areas in town as rain was forecasted (it ended up being sunny, but she was trying to help us make the most of our visit). The hotel has an elevator, cool wooden storage unit for your luggage, staying-at-your-aunt's-house feel. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
