We stayed at Le Simplon recently and have nothing but praise for the hotel and staff. Having had to change our plans, we arrived a day early; as Le Simplon was full, the receptionist phoned around the area and found us another hotel for that night. Our eventual stay at Le Simplon was excellent, especially considering the great value. Lovely staff and the breakfast was just right. Good location too for Perrache station and the airport shuttle bus.

The hotel is very central, just next to the Lyon Perrache train station and 5 minutes away from Place de Bellecour (by walk).
Rooms are clean but a bit small. The people working there are very nice and the breakfast (orange juice + coffee + croissant + bread & jam) is included in the price.
The hotel has just been renovated but unfortunately when we were there it was not totally finished. For example, the shower was not protected by any shower curtain and the bathroom quickly became a swimmingpool !
The hotel is part of the operation "book two nights get one free" so it may be considered as a good value if you take advantage of it. Otherwise the prices are a bit overrated.

the Simplon is clean and bacsic and reasonably located in Lyon, and the area around gets noisy early so don't plan a sleep in.

the rooms are clean and fairly appointed for for a two star hotel. the staff were friendly and willing to assist where possible.

we only stayed the one night and it was ideal overnight quick stop on a driving tour to Provence, certainly fair value for money.

We stayed at the Hotel du Simplon for 2 nights on the 5th and 6th January. The front office staff are cheery and pleasant and we received a warm welcome but a young girl who could speak English. The room was spacious and homely and very clean. Breakfast was basic: bread, croissant and juice. The hotel is a short walk from the train station Lyon Perrache. It was simple however we paid a simple price too!
