“Le Roosevelt.....Superior???”

Le Roosevelt

Jul 10, 2008

This hotel is 3 * and the room (no 47) was classed as superior. On arrival we were given the key and told it was on the fourth floor. The hotal did have a lift but it was full just with us two and two bags!
We found our room which was at the rear of the hotel overlooking a small car park with apartments opposite. As soon as I walk in I thought there had been a mistake with the booking. It reminded me of a basic travel lodge room (no offence meant). My impression of a superior room would be space to walk around, maybe a comfy chair to sit on rather than the bed or even a nice decor. The only thing good about it was that the bed was big. Another thing which bugs me is the overuse of blankets rather than a duvet, I'm fed up remaking the bed without them and just using the counterpane and the sheet!
The bathroom has all the usual stuff but the toilet was behind a small wall which itself was behind the door! The hairdryer was placed so far up the wall that I needed to stand on tiptoe to reach it ( I'm 5'6")! The overbath shower was badly needing the screw tightening as it kept drooping so you needed to hold it with your free hand when using the shower.
On enquiring about the room I was told that it was superior because it was at the rear! Why should anyone pay more just for a view of the car park? I normally pay more for little things that make your stay more welcoming and enjoyable.
The hotel is fine regards location and we found a few good local restaurants but given the choice I would not stay here.

“Cozy, French, and Very Helpful”

Le Roosevelt

5 of 5 stars
Chapel Hill, NC
Aug 28, 2007

This relatively small hotel (8 rooms on our floor) had pleasant mid-size rooms in the style of France. Everything was very clean. The hotel was located a five minute walk from the Foch metro station. It was a good place to say to go to a conference at the Palais de Congres convention center (about 15 min away by the number 4 bus) while keeping a little distance from it. Our room (#20) faced an interior courtyard and was quiet at night. The hotel's elevator was the right size for 2 to 4 people. The bathroom and facilities were stylish and modern, though without the intensely bright lighting of American style hotels. The hotel's neighborhood had upscale stores on the street level and residences in the 5 or 6 levels above. It seemed to my wife and me to be an attractive and seemingly safe environment to enjoy walking around in the afternoons and early evening, especially along Franklin Roosevelt avenue (one block away), which has many upscale shops as well as cafes extending across the sidwalk into the street. Restaurants at all levels from gourmet to street hot-dogs are close by. The outstanding aspect of the hotel itself was its staff, who helped us immensely to deal with a package held up in customs, to solve some problems getting our chargers pluged in, to get various taxis, and who were unfailingly friendly every time we came in or out. While several of the staff and people in the neighborhood spoke only French, some spoke English well, and in any event there was no language barrier. Breakfast in the morning cost 12 Euro extra per room and was well worth it -- assorted bread, jam, pastries, cereal, fruit in a nice room. There is a central bar for late night drinks, which also serves as a good place to sit and talk. This hotel is not in the tourist district downtown, but that district is only 3 stops away on the metro, which was close enough.
When we go back to Lyon (a very nice city), I am definitely going back to this hotel. We loved it.

When we stayed in this hotel 2 years ago we were very pleased with it. Very comfortable rooms, good and attentive service, an overall nice experience.
This year however, the experience was less than can be desired.
The room we stayed in this time was very very tiny, the temperature was above 23 °C (75 °F) and there was no way of turning it down. The room was facing a busy street so opening the window was not an option. The reception staff was unable to offer a solution.
It turned out that we were given a 'junior suite' when we stayed here 2 years ago, a junior suite to some is just a regular 'basic' romom to others.
Sorry, but wouldn't recommend this hotel anymore for a stay in Lyon.

“Good value but not quite centrally located”

The hotel is nicely restored and a good value for a 3 star property in Lyon. We are satisfied with our corner room on the top floor. Large windows with shutters, ample desk area and spacious bathroom and closet space. Flat screen TV. Slow elevators like in most European hotels, but stairway is airy and well-lit. No street parking but plenty hotel parking.

This is our first visit to Lyon. The hotel is located on the Rive Gauche (the left bank of the Rhone river) area across the bridge from the Opera/Hotel de Ville (place Terreaux), about 4 blocks from the Foch metro station. If you have to stay in Vieux Lyon or Presque-ile, then this is not the right hotel for you.

We are delighted to find the hotel in a somewhat residential neighborhood not far from the center (place Bellecour). There is a direct subway line from the Perrache train station, and the newer La Part Dieu station and shopping plaza (with a very busy "Carrefour" store) are within walking distance (about 12 pleasant block away). We find surprisingly delightful ethnic, contemporary and traditional dining selection along rue de Seze where the hotel is located and also along rue Massena between the hotel and the aforementioned Part Dieu station. If you like non-touristy spots, you will enjoy the area around this hotel.
