“Lovely Family Hotel in non-touristy area”

Hotel Kohler

5 of 5 stars
Wilmette, Illinois
Nov 25, 2007

After living in Heidelberg for a year, we wanted to stay away from the touristy areas of the city, but still be centrally located. Hotel Kohler proved to be a great option and more reasonably priced than our usual Crowne Plaza or Marriott experiences. Rooms, baths, and dining areas are nicely maintained.

The proprietor Herr Weiss, manages the front desk so he is on top of everything. He is also very good with kids (we have 4). We had a beautiful corner room (106 euro) and a twin room. Herr Weiss accommodated us nicely, with schedule changes, kid requests, and our neighborhood visitors.

If you want to be in the Altstadt (old city) then you would not want to stay here. But if you like to live like a local, in a nice, quiet neighborhood, then I would recommend this hotel.

When my wife and I arived in Heidelberg we found a place to park and made our way to the hotel. I had made reservations ahead of time on their website. These were the room options I had to choose from:

single room Euro 47,00
single room with shower/toilet Euro 68,00/ 72,00
single room with bath/toilet Euro 78,00
twin bedded room Euro 57,00
twin bedded room with shower/toilet Euro 83,00/ 96,00/ 106,00
twin bedded room with bath/toilet Euro 100,00

since it was my wife and I, I chose the single room with shower/tolet for 68 euro. Upon ariving, I showed them my reservation reply. They said this was for one person and we had to take the only twin bed room they had left for 96 euro. We left and found a much more centrally located hotel for cheaper. I call hotel koler and he said that he was forced by german law to charge 80% of the room i reserved. The lady in charge of the hotel I chose had not herd of such a law.

Found the place on Trip Advisor, and the reviews were 100% reliable! We were cycling along the River Neckar with a 3 year-old and a one year-old. For a really good price we got a huge double bed, a single and a cot in a large room with really high ceilings. Like all the hotels we stayed in everything was spotless. The staff had no problems about us carting our wet bikes and trailer through the lobby to leave them parked in the courtyard.
The Hotel is in a very quiet location but only ten minutes away on foot from the old town.
The breakfast wasn't the best we had during our holiday but there was certainly nothing wrong with it and no-one seemed to mind fidgety kids.
Great - would gladly go there again.

“Friendly Service”

Hotel Kohler

Quiet little hotel with friendly service. I travelled with a Korean colleague and they had travel informations available in many different languages. The elderly geltleman who seemed to be the owner was very helpful in pointing out good places to tour and eat in Heidelberg. For its price, service and friendliness, I would definitely recommend this cozy hotel.

“Very comfortable in quiet location”

We arrived on a sunday afternoon and were fortunate enough to have found a parking spot just outside the hotel door instead of having to leave our car in the parking area around the block. The staff were very friendly and informative. Having driven from Italy we were a little tired and were pleased to find that our room (with tv) was very comfortable, nicely decorated with high ceilings and very clean, as was our en-suite. The hotel in a quiet part of town which in fairness isn't much to see but only 10-15 minutes walk away is the old town which is magnificent. Breakfast the next day was ok although the waitress wasn't very friendly but all in all our stay at the Kohler was very enjoyable. This hotel is good value for money.
