“No Sleep in the most expensive hotel of our trip”

Marriott Heidelberg Hotel

The Staff is Service oriented, the rooms are great, it is a Marriott, the location is lovely on the river and only a block from the Tram that takes you all the way to the old town in a couple of minutes. The breakfast buffet is huge if you get to it.

But the noise/music from the wedding reception in one of the conference rooms was non-stop until 2:30 am. Every staff person was apolegetic and they all said it would be over in ten minutes, from 10:30 on. We called the desk four times, and even went down at 2 am. No other rooms. They offered a free breakfast, that was already included in our room.

Since we pre-paid the attitude was well we can't do anything on the price. Nice. They get paid. The service gets paid. And they shift blame from one to the other. So no sleep in the most expensive hotel of our trip.

They gave me the business managers card but neglected to mention that the office is closed on the weekends, when we checked out.

And the desk incorrectly told us the time for the breakfast, so we missed it. It ends half an hour earlier on Sundays because of the Brunch special which happens to start when you have to check out.

We have stayed in Marriotts all over the world but this is the first time they essentially said this is not our problem we already have your money.

“American style hotel with no unpleasant surprises”

After looking for hotels of charm in the area, I resorted to making a reservation at the Marriott, even though some earlier reviewers suggested it was nothing special, and other ones complained about the pricing of additional services (presumably parking and Internet). I simply needed a no-complications place to stay for a couple of nights, so I settled on the Marriott, anticipating something ordinary. Perhaps because my expectations were low, I was pleasantly surprised to encounter a very professional staff, a good location, beautiful grounds, a very modern clean room and public areas, a most bountiful breakfast, and, overall, a warm and wonderful stay. I suppose if I were looking for some charming experience I might have been disappointed (this hotel would not be out of place in any U.S. city), but I prefer to stay in hotels where there is peace, quiet, and modernity rather than drafty halls, inadequate water pressure, poor lighting, smelly surroundings, and cranky innkeepers.

The Marriott in Heidelburg holds no surprises, except that this is a very modern, reasonably-priced hotel, sufficiently away from the over-rated tourist madness that characterizes much of the rest of this city. I'd stay here again, were I to come to town another time.

“Very nice hotel with fantastic breakfast and staff”

The Marriott Hotel in Heidelberg is situated on the Neckar River within walking distance ( 20 minutes)of old town and the castle. The hotel is very clean and modern with well furnished rooms. Monday through Thursday nights the rates are rather high as most of the guest are in Heidelberg for business and conventions. Because it is mainly a business hotel, there is not much around the area such as sightseeing and restaurants. One must walk into old town (20 minutes of walking off calories)! The staff was very friendly, helpful, and all spoke multiple languages (their English was perfect!). Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights, the rates are much lower and includes a daily buffet breakfast. The breakfast features breads, breakfast rolls, fruit, eggs, breakfast meats, cereals, omelets made to order, teas, coffee, and juice (more food than one could eat at one sitting) . On Sunday morning the breakfast is more of a brunch with many lunch type items on the menu. One evening, we dined at the restaurant and found the food just as good. The prices were reasonable for a hotel restaurant.
The rooms were funished with normal Marriott amenities such as ironing board and iron, room safe, shampoo, lotion, hair dryer, etc.
Parking is available in the hotel garage, however, it was very expensive. The business center offered internet, faxing, etc.

The hotel offers discount rates for seniors, AAA members, etc. I would suggest this hotel to a traveler that wants more of what U.S. hotels offer.

“Very Nice Experience”

This was the 3rd Marriott property we stayed at during our trip to Europe and it was in a very good location, close to the river and a 20 minute walk to the old town center. The room was large with a very nice view and everything was would would expect from this hotel chain. The staff was eager to answer questions and the service at the bar was pleasant. We would return to this hotel should we visit Heidelberg

“Great service, poor location”

Marriot was far from the Old Town and you need to take a tram to get to the sights... Other than that, service was excellent, Internet Access cheap and they provide free breakfast, free dessert and drinks in the evening with your room. Unfortunately at Euro235/night we felt it was a bit pricey, but we had no choice since other hotels were fully booked.
