The Marriott Hotel in Heidelberg is situated on the Neckar River within walking distance ( 20 minutes)of old town and the castle. The hotel is very clean and modern with well furnished rooms. Monday through Thursday nights the rates are rather high as most of the guest are in Heidelberg for business and conventions. Because it is mainly a business hotel, there is not much around the area such as sightseeing and restaurants. One must walk into old town (20 minutes of walking off calories)! The staff was very friendly, helpful, and all spoke multiple languages (their English was perfect!). Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights, the rates are much lower and includes a daily buffet breakfast. The breakfast features breads, breakfast rolls, fruit, eggs, breakfast meats, cereals, omelets made to order, teas, coffee, and juice (more food than one could eat at one sitting) . On Sunday morning the breakfast is more of a brunch with many lunch type items on the menu. One evening, we dined at the restaurant and found the food just as good. The prices were reasonable for a hotel restaurant.
The rooms were funished with normal Marriott amenities such as ironing board and iron, room safe, shampoo, lotion, hair dryer, etc.
Parking is available in the hotel garage, however, it was very expensive. The business center offered internet, faxing, etc.
The hotel offers discount rates for seniors, AAA members, etc. I would suggest this hotel to a traveler that wants more of what U.S. hotels offer.
