“SMALL, PROFESSIONAL.....AND LOADED WITH CHARACTER!”

We have spent a considerable amount of time in Europe and most of it has been in small, upscale inns that we've ferreted out from the huge numbers available--usually very much to our satisfaction. Gasthaus Hackteufel, though not what we'd consider to be "upscale," offered a great location, a restaurant with a reputation, and very attentive pre-arrival e-mail communications. Upon arriving (don't let the narrow, pedestrian-laden street/passage turn you off) we found the staff to be the equal of the more expensive places we've enjoyed. Everyone was well-trained, spoke perfect English, and anxious to help in any way possible--including giving us excellent directions to the public car park a few, very short blocks away. And you'll need to move your car ASAP, as there's no way another sizable vehicle can negotiate the lane with you parked there! The non-smoking room was HUGE, with a brand new bathroom that was equal to anything we have at home. Cleanliness, nice bedding, even (silk) flowers in the room announced loudly that these folks take pride in their innkeeping. We'd recommend Hackteufel to anyone visiting in the Heidelberg area. Walk to everything, and then some.

“Great Experience at the Hackteufel”

My coworker and I stayed at the Hackteufel for one night when we were on our way back to the States from the Middle East. The hotel is in the perfect location in the old part of Heidelberg. I was able to look out my window on the second floor and see the cobblestone streets, people eating dinner, and the beautiful night sky. Our rooms were small, but very clean and tidy. I have no complaints. There are many things within walking distance of this hotel. The restaurant had great food and everyone was extremely friendly. I highly recommend this hotel.

This was my first trip to Europe and I was by myself. I couldn't have chosen a more fun and neat place to stay. Plus it was right in the heart of everything. I wish I could have stayed longer. The breakfast was great and my view was great. Price was right and I loved The Gasthaus Hackteufel!!! I will return one day, this time with my husband.

“Charming Hotel in the Heart of Heidelberg”

Gasthaus Hackteufel

Location, location, location. This hotel is just steps from the famous bridge in the heart of the old town. We used it as a great base for visiting the sites and could rest in our room between outings!

Our room was beautiful and clean, we were welcomed with a bowl of fruit and complimentary wine. The room had wood beams in the ceiling and wood floors with area rugs. Even a small private balcony although we didn't really use it.

We paid 238 EUR total for 2 nights. A good deal for the location and atmosphere. It was recommended by Lonely Planet and we second the recommendation! Would stay here again.

“Wonderful Inn - Great location”

Gasthaus Hackteufel

A really wonderful inn. We stayed in room #12 - on the top floor. The room is very large and very spacious, with a small fridge, a CD player, a TV, an ensuite bath with a bathtub, and a gorgeous view of the castle and the old town from your window. The hosts were very welcoming and gracious. The breakfast was typical of the rest of europe and quite sufficient. Very nice, courteous staff who were very helpful. Would definitely stay there again when we return. The gorgeous view alone is well worth it. There is an elevator in the hotel, but getting to room #12 requires going up some stairs as well, but that's what you have to do to enjoy the view of the castle, the Neckar river, and old town. Location is very central, only steps from the old bridge and the Marktplatz.
