We used the Hotel Hetzel for a 1 night layover on our way from the Zurich airport to Dinkelsbuhl, Germany. Despite being only a couple of miles from the Stuttgart train station, it is in a very quiet neighborhood that has the feel of a small village. We took a taxi (13.70 Euros) from the train station because on the map it looked like it would require 2 S-Bahn routes to get to the hotel.
The hotel is deceptively large (bigger on the inside than the outside), modern, and nicely decorated, with good service from the staff. The room was very clean and adequate, with a nice bath and balcony. The only odd thing was having to carry luggage through the restaurant to get to the elevator for our wing.
The breakfast buffet was exceptional and reasonably priced with a good variety. Unfortunately, we didn't have dinner reservations for their in-house Greek restaurant, but it seemed popular as it was full the whole evening.
There was a typical gasthaus just a block or so away that had excellent food and served as a good orientation for my wife's first real German meal.
