Stayed for 2 nights in one of their double rooms, southern aspect, with a balcony (No. 59). Very glad we paid the extra as the view of the Watzmann was amazing. We could also see Kehlsteinhaus (Eagles Nest) and even though we overlooked the railway station they were the quietest trains ever - could hardly hear them. It was also a pleasure to relax on the balcony in the sun. Room was very comfortable and clean and breakfasts were excellent. Waitress at breakfast couldn't have been more accommodating - just ask if you want anything else. We also dined in their Huberstuben Restaurant on our first night and had an excellent meal. My husband had the pike fresh from the Konigssee and I had the lamb - both wunderbar!

Yes, the communal rooms did look a little dated, but truely Bavarian which for us added to the charm of this lovely hotel. If you want modern and minimalistic then go and stay in the Intercontinental (5/10mins drive away from Berchtesgaden up on the Obersalzburg).

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Berchtesgaden is a beautiful little place with plenty to see in the area. We enjoyed our visits to Kehlsteinhaus, a boat trip on the Konigssee, the Documentation Centre and of course Salzburg. It was also a joy to see so many women wearing the traditional Bavarian dress.

Final tips - we also had good meals in Bier Adam and The Goldener (think it's called) 5 mins walk down the road. Also, I did swim in the pool twice (while hubbie had a siesta) - it is small, but very clean and I had it all to myself which was great. We would definitely stay here again. Go ahead, book and enjoy!

“Wonderfully German!”

We very much enjoyed our stay at this hotel. It is typically German and very very Bavarian. Waitresses in national dress, lots of dark wood, antlers etc. Please eat at the hotel - on the basis of the reviews on this website we booked half board and were really glad that we did. The food was of a high standard, with lots of variation and generally came off the a la carte menu. Our room was spacious and comfortable. It was at the back of the hotel which unfortunately meant that we did not have a view but every morning at breakfast we could sit and look at the beautiful mountains and scenery. It really set you up for the day. The staff were very pleasant and helpful.

A few points for consideration. A lot of people would say that the hotel needed refurbishment. The communal rooms are 'tired' and perhaps a little musty but for us that just added to the charm. However, we found the pool quite uninviting. It is in the basement and has no windows/access to the outside. As a consequence we only used it once and that was a disappointment..

Stayed at the Vier Jahreszeiten for several days in mid-December 2006. It is a place with a lot of charm and great location. Good breakfast with helpful staff. Easy to see Konigsee and Salzburg from here. Rooms tidy and comfortable. Will stay there again.

Vier Jahreszeiten Berchtesgaden

My BF and I stayed here for two nights in October. We loved Berchtesgaden very much and hope to return one day.

The Miller family run a friendly and nice hotel. It's more charming than anything else. The hotel itself has winding, almost mazey halls to go to and fro the front desk, restaurant, street, rooms (where we were) and parking in back, however, the decor is interesting and homey. Check in was a breeze, check out, too, and the staff warm and welcoming as you go to and fro.

Our room was oddly laid out, but had a big closet (hard to get in though behind the entrance door), big bed (hard, pushed together twins), small built in couch seat, table, TV (from 1975 I think -- at least it was color), and not much room for stuff or moving around -- but the bathroom was HUGE (tub AND Shower stall) and clean and we had a nice, big balcony to enjoy the beautiful scenery. It was old decor, maybe a bit dusty, but had a homey feel. We were next to the elevator on the top floor and it could be very loud when other guests were returning to their rooms at night.

The location is ideal near the town center, a laundromaut, grocery, restaurants, all a short walk.

Do as everyone says and eat in the restaurant. Great food and desserts!

We took the boat across the Konigsee in the pouring rain (tour was in all German) and was still fun....one of the highlights of our trip to Germany (including Munich, Oktoberfest, Ludwig's castles, etc.) was the Eagle's Nest tour by David and Christine -- David was an incredibly interesting tour guide and this cannot be missed for English language tour of Kehlsteinhaus and Obersalzburg.

“A fantasic holiday”

We have recently returned from a holiday in Bavaria, having spent 4 nights at the Vier Jahreszeiten in Berchtesgaden I can strongly recommend it.
The hotel was lovely - very traditional furniture and fittings, carpets etc. The view from the rooms at the front of the hotel and the breakfast room is breathtaking. We also enjoyed the indoor pool very much after a long day sightseeing / walking in the mountains.
If you stay here you must eat in the hotel restaurant - the food is out of this world (and that's from somebody who's had the pleasure of visiting some top restaurants in our time)
All in all a first class hotel at a very reasonable price set in a beautiful part of the world - will hopefully pay a return visit in the future.
