My partner and I stayed at the Turken and found the place charming and atmospheric. If German WW2 is your thing then this is the place to be. The views are just out of this world and the Hotel is central to investigating and educating oneself about Hitler, SS and the Hitler Youth due to the buildings gone and still present that surround the area.
The Hotel itself is simple yet immaculate, Frau Scharfenburg is charming, her English is perfect and her persona demands respect. Dont expect lively nights out, because you wont get them! This place is quiet and perfect for just getting away from the world and relaxing. Breakfast is plentiful and fresh and there's nice places to eat within walking distances for an evening meal.
If your coming for more than 3-4 nights, I recommend a vehicle. There's just about enough things to keep you amused within walking distance for 3 nights stay, after this and a vehicle is needed to stay busy, if you haven't and bad weather sets in, then you can go a bit stir crazy.
I also recommend that a bit of homework on the buildings that were present during the War years, its great fun to find and investigate them once located, decent camera is a must as is reasonable footwear, no high heels for the ladies!
All in all, a fantastic break and a chance to touch history first hand, i'll definately being going back next year if Frau Scharfenburg continues to open this historic and beautiful building. Oh yea, i nearly forgot, the bone specialist Hospital in Berchtesgaden, its medical staff and Doctors are first class, top notch as i unfortunately had to experience! A little slip whilst investigating some wartime buildings, enough said.
Go, while you still can!!!!!
