“Wonderful Hotel and Wonderful Host”

Hotel zum Turken

Aug 8, 2008

Our stay at the Turken was wonderful. The place is full of history. A must for history buffs visiting the area. The room was very cozy and smelled of apples which had been left for us to enjoy. Frau Scharfenberg and her staff (note: her staff consists of her former guests and now dear friends who come to help) are very personal. It was like staying in someone's very clean home. We felt terribly comfortable. The hotel was very quiet except for the birds singing. The honor bar system was a welcome end to a wonderful day on the Obersalzburg. The breakfast is enough to last you for an entire day. But when you do find yourself hungry , the staff recommends, as do I, a nearby restaurant Holzkafer. It was a warm, charming restaurant with very good food and excellent atmosphere. We truly enjoyed our stay and our transport back into time. The Turken is a classic.

“Fantastic Experience”

Hotel zum Turken

This place is great! Lots of history and the location is beautiful! There is an old WWII bunker right below the hotel - it is really unbelievable. The owner is great and the breakfast was yummy! The room was very comfortable and there is a washer and dryer if you need to do laundry. I can't say enough wonderful things about this hotel. One thing you need to keep in mind is that this is no Hilton. It is quite different - no TV (the hotel was very quiet) and the bar downstairs is based on an honesty policy - you take what you want and write down your room number and what you took. I can't wait to go back.

“Fantastic Hotel Zum Turken”

Hotel zum Turken

My partner and I stayed at the Turken and found the place charming and atmospheric. If German WW2 is your thing then this is the place to be. The views are just out of this world and the Hotel is central to investigating and educating oneself about Hitler, SS and the Hitler Youth due to the buildings gone and still present that surround the area.
The Hotel itself is simple yet immaculate, Frau Scharfenburg is charming, her English is perfect and her persona demands respect. Dont expect lively nights out, because you wont get them! This place is quiet and perfect for just getting away from the world and relaxing. Breakfast is plentiful and fresh and there's nice places to eat within walking distances for an evening meal.
If your coming for more than 3-4 nights, I recommend a vehicle. There's just about enough things to keep you amused within walking distance for 3 nights stay, after this and a vehicle is needed to stay busy, if you haven't and bad weather sets in, then you can go a bit stir crazy.
I also recommend that a bit of homework on the buildings that were present during the War years, its great fun to find and investigate them once located, decent camera is a must as is reasonable footwear, no high heels for the ladies!
All in all, a fantastic break and a chance to touch history first hand, i'll definately being going back next year if Frau Scharfenburg continues to open this historic and beautiful building. Oh yea, i nearly forgot, the bone specialist Hospital in Berchtesgaden, its medical staff and Doctors are first class, top notch as i unfortunately had to experience! A little slip whilst investigating some wartime buildings, enough said.
Go, while you still can!!!!!

My friend and I just finished a 3-night stay here and cannot give enough compliments to the staff. We were treated like family and made to feel very welcome. Check in and check out was simple. The breakfasts are fantastic and even offer made-to-order eggs. We had a balcony room overlooking the valley, which I'd recommend if you have a choice. If we ever make it back to Germany, we intend to come back to the Turken and enjoy ourselves again!

I booked this hotel because of what I read in Frommers about the hotels military significance during the second world war. Well it was fantastic. The staff at teh hotel were more than friendly, the rooms were, spotless and our balcony view was to die for. The Eagles nest is above the hotel and you can see it, Hitlers Berghof was 40 yards away. wonderful place we hope to return next year
