“Great place to stay.”

We had 2 rooms with balconies, both had a terrific view of Berchtesgaden. We loved this place and would highly recommend this place to friends or family. This place would have been hard to find if we did not have the navigation system in our rental car. I would recommend to all who rent vehicles to spend the extra money and get the navigation system. This place is up on the hillside and not easy to find, but well worth the drive. The owner spoke english and the help were all very polite. Hope to go back soon

We chose this hotel based on the inside swimming pool and Spa on the premises, however upon arrival (in December) we found out that the pool is cold and not heated!!!! that ruined all the plans to have fun there with the kids. Dinner was primitive, they put us in the other dark and cold room where we were surrounded by smokers. the 3 course dinner was a) 2 thin slices of melon, then 2 thin pieces of meat with 2 spoons of noodles, and for dessert a very simple joguhurt with mandarines out of the tin. The children dinner did not include any appetizer (which made my daughters cry) as well not the stupidly simple dessert!!! which restaurant thinks you can have children menu without desert?
This was very annoying. The room was quite hot but has no heating to shut off. Breakfast was very good in comparison, but the price all over was not accurate anymore since dinner was pitiful and the swimming pool could not be used. For 2 beers we were charged 9 EUR! all over disappointing.

Wow, we took a chance with this one. Couldn't decide between staying 3 nights right in Berchtesgaden or somewhere on the outskirts with a view. The recent positive reviews for Alpenhotel Denninglehen were not posted when we planned our mid-Sept 2006 trip, but we are in total agreement with them. It's hard to find, high on a hill outside Berchtesgaden, but well worth the search. Our room with balcony overlooked the valley. We had requested a twin, and received a triple (double bed and single bed), Room 26 I think. Very large room, also with a couch and table, and closet. Elevator (big plus). I believe the hotel was built in the 1980's, and so our room was more motel-like than our other experiences on this Germany trip, and the hallways are sort of dark, but the public rooms in the hotel are very well appointed. Breakfast was great. Our limited German matched their limited English but we communicated sufficiently. There are many, many small hotels lining hillsides surrounding the Denninglehen, but the D is well-positioned, high above them all. Star-gazing at night from the balcony was wonderful, with the very dark sky. You need a car to stay here, the location would be impossible to access without it.

Great position overlooking the valley. Ask for a room with a valley view it is well worth it. The rooms are on the small side and simple but very clean with a good modern compact shower room. Had no problem with the rooms. The balcony was a good size with 2 padded cushion recliner chairs that were ideal for just gazing at that amazing view. Good restaurant with excellent food for all tastes. The staff spoke a little English but we had no trouble making ourselves understood and they were very attentive and helpful.
Great base for the area although the hotel is a little way up the hill and you would need to drive anywhere at night. When first looking for the hotel it is quite difficult to find it! Worth persevering. Would definitely stay here again.

“Excellent Taste of Bavaria”

The Alpenhotel was just excellent. The staff was extremely friendly. Our room was clean and our view looked over the green alps. We ate dinner and breakfast in their dining room. The food/beer featured Bavarian specialties. There are hiking trails right outside the hotel so plan on spending some time enjoying the scenery.
