The Pension Haydn may appear to be a bit out of the way in terms of the big sights in Munich, but such a calculation reckons without the hyper-efficient U-Bahn system there, as you're only two stops away from Marienplatz and the centre of the action. Indeed, you're barely ten minutes by foot from there too.
It can be a bit tricky to find, and my Lonely Planet map was worse than useless as I ended up walking around in circles. Still, when you eventually reach the street, you enter from the back of the building and are rewarded with a superbly quiet place to lay your head - always a good thing if you're planning on exploring the beer halls.
I took the money-saving option and booked a room with a shared bathroom, and I may well have been the only person using that bathroom in the place, given how quiet it seemed. Still, the lock on the toilet door was a bit erratic, and one of the construction workers from next door seemed not to understand that the door being shut and my foot being against it meant "don't open the door". A minor irritation only.
The TV in my room was a bit odd as well, and the highly-capable Roxana needed to enlist her brother to help fix it. In the event, it hardly mattered, as I was out and enjoying Munich most of the time anyway.
Roxana and her staff are able to assist with any problem that might come up. I had to leave early on my last morning, and mentioned this to her the day before. Upon my return with cash to pay her, she'd gone, but had left a message with everyone that they needed to be on the lookout for me and my money.
Breakfasts are also a highlight here. Instead of there being a buffet, you're given a basket of fruits, spreads and breadrolls, as well as being asked for your preference in drinks and eggs, which adds a lovely personalised aspect to the whole thing.
