I stayed two nights in December 2007, and the hotel was adquate, but in many ways seemed "tired." The bed had a very worn mattress (supposedly to be replaced next month), and a board underneath did not help much. The breakkfast was well assorted, but they only opened a section of the entire restaurant (to save on staffing?) and one of the two morning was so crowded that it was no pleasure to eat there. At one point a rowdy "airline" group had their table "extended" until it was essentially on top of mine, and when one of them threw his jacket right on my table I politely requested a table change. After the waiter said "that is not necessary" on three occasions I finally moved myself. On another occasion I was going down to the lobby on one of the six elevators (this is a big hotel), and when I did not retreat to the back of an elevator when a bellhop approached with a dangerously overstacked handtruck of luggage, he huffed and puffed, and retreated. I expected an elevator ride, not a jousting match! The bathroom had two leaks (shower, toilet) which took hours to fix....is this what a "grand hotel" should be like?
Yes, the classic cars in the lobby are pretty, but just fluff. I was afraid to even open the minibar, as they have everything electronically coded for immediate billing, so if I were to check the ingredients of the potato chips I might find something unexpected (a bill for them!) I hate being treated like a criminal, and that minibar system not only treats me like garbage, but also shows their class.
Pool is nice, if a bit old, sauna nice, room not so nice, bath nice (except for the leaks), bath "supplies" nice, view (from high floor) real nice.
Service: check in okay, check out nice as I chose a friendly one. Concierge and bellhops all rude or barely polite (regrettably the norm in hotels in this area).
Overall, since I have many Munich hotel choices, I will not be returning to this hotel.
