Having stayed in some less than brilliant hotels on my travels I was pleasantly surprised by what I found at the Kurpfalz - especially having read the reviews on this site. Non-Europeans must expect the world when they travel abroad.....

Accommodation was cheap (important if travelling on your own). The room was spotlessly clean and reasonably spacious (for one anyway). Breakfast was plentiful and the staff were helpful. The surrounding area was deserted at night but at no point did it feel particularly unsafe.

It's about a ten minute walk to the train station and a further five minutes to Karlsplatz which in my mind is where Munich proper begins... There are not many restaurants in the vicinity so be prepared to travel a bit to eat.

All in all I really enjoyed my stay in the Kurpfalz.

My stay from March1 to March 9 was pleasant. The staff was nice and helpful , the breakfast was good. The area around the hotel was not bad, we go out late at night and had no trouble. In warmer weather there might be more people in the streets, but we had not trouble. Understand one thing though this is a Germany hotel and NOT an American hotel, the rooms are small, but clean. There was a light switch for the hallway that had a timer on it, so you can turn it on when needed-so turn it on when you need it ande save a little electricity when no one is using the lights. I would stay ther again.

Went there August2004. We felt unsafe in the area. The receptionist understood why but said in practice it was completely safe. We searched elsewhere after checking in and found somewhere else, preferring to pay for two hotels than stay there. A very tall and large Italian man was arguing with the receptionist that he could not fit in the beds. The smell and ambience reminded us of, at best, university hall of residence. The owner was reasonable about the number of nights he charged us for. It ruined our holiday and we returned home 2 days later.

We stayed at the Hotel Kurpfalz during Octoberfest in 2004.
I chose this hotel as it looked very modern on the website, plus it was within walking distance to the Octoberfest ground.
We were very surprised when we arrived at the hotel, as it wasn't as modern as it promoted itself to be on it's website. However, the rooms were very comfortable and clean. The staff were nice especially the housekeepers.
I would recomend this hotel to anyone wanting low cost and clean accomodation. It isn't a four star hotel, so those staying here shouldn't expect it to be! Don't be fooled by the trendy website!
