I paid a very reasonable rate for the hotel room (about $60pn) which is unbelievable for Munich. It's about 3 minutes walk from the Augustiner, a small internet cafe/convenience store and a kebab shop. Everything I need to survive for a good weekend!

The train station is a little bit of a hike - about 10mins by foot, not so good when there's still inches of snow underfoot though trams are closer.

The hotel itself was clean and warm. They refused a credit card as the room was on a special rate (meaning I had a nice long walk to the nearest cashpoint about four blocks down the street).

Breakfast is normal bavarian fare, with some continental thrown in too. Tea water is still luke warm (go coffee), but hey, it's Europe not the UK...

Reception staff speak fair to good english. The staff in the breakfast room have a good knowledge of internation waving of hands to make themselves understood!

Rooms were clean but basic - perfect for a short stay when you're not in your room. The TV channels were mainly static, but if you navigated up about 30 channels you started finding a few watchable channels - but with the numerous pubs and resturants what are you watching TV for?!

Most of the furniture is basic wood, it's not built for comfort (first hotel room I've had with only wooden benches as seats) and the floor is tiled. This means the whole hotel is a noise trap. If you yourself are noisy or plan to come back late at night, I warn you, the guests will not be pleased ;- )

If on the otherhand you like to sleep in, the cleaning staff come round about 7-9am and clatter and clunk about.

If they had a bit of carpet to reduce the noise it'd be the best place to stay in munich = D

Spent 3 nights at Hotel Kurpfalz and would defiantly stay there again. Excellent hotel, picked for location, 2 minutes walk from Oktoberfest. Clean rooms and comfortable beds, very good nights sleep. Good choice for breakfast in the morning. Central station (Hauptbahnhof) 15 minutes walk away, so suggest a taxi if you have luggage (coach transfer from airport drops off at central station).

Having stayed in some less than brilliant hotels on my travels I was pleasantly surprised by what I found at the Kurpfalz - especially having read the reviews on this site. Non-Europeans must expect the world when they travel abroad.....

Accommodation was cheap (important if travelling on your own). The room was spotlessly clean and reasonably spacious (for one anyway). Breakfast was plentiful and the staff were helpful. The surrounding area was deserted at night but at no point did it feel particularly unsafe.

It's about a ten minute walk to the train station and a further five minutes to Karlsplatz which in my mind is where Munich proper begins... There are not many restaurants in the vicinity so be prepared to travel a bit to eat.

All in all I really enjoyed my stay in the Kurpfalz.

My stay from March1 to March 9 was pleasant. The staff was nice and helpful , the breakfast was good. The area around the hotel was not bad, we go out late at night and had no trouble. In warmer weather there might be more people in the streets, but we had not trouble. Understand one thing though this is a Germany hotel and NOT an American hotel, the rooms are small, but clean. There was a light switch for the hallway that had a timer on it, so you can turn it on when needed-so turn it on when you need it ande save a little electricity when no one is using the lights. I would stay ther again.
