“Comfort & Cleanliness in the Heart of Schwabing!”

Cosmopolitan Hotel

4 of 5 stars
Boulder, CO
Jul 25, 2008

The Cosmo is a three star hotel whose location in the Schwabing District cannot be beat. We booked the Double room which was average size for Europe. The Cosmo definitely earned each star. The front desk gentleman was so helpful and very eager to give us opinions on great places to eat. They do not have a hotel bar, but there were beer taps at the front desk. There was free internet access in the lobby. For those who feel Schwabing is "off the beaten path", it offers much in the way of great restaurants, shopping and an overall great neighborhood experience. I suggest walking west of the hotel as it becomes quite lively with great boutiques and cafes. It is just two blocks from the underground which we used constantly. It’s just a few minutes train ride to Marienplatz and trains are constantly coming.

The hotel is accessed off the street thru the service road, which doesn't really give the hotel a sense of arrival which was the only negative thing I can say about the hotel. There are rooms facing the entry courtyard as well as the street. We were given a courtyard room. Keep in mind there is no A/C but the windows are operable and there is a small balcony (albeit with no seating). The windows are sound-proof. I was a bit cautious upon receiving our room as it was right next to the stair and elevator. However, not once did we hear any extraneous noise, and I am VERY sensitive to that sort of thing.

The breakfast was absolutely fabulous including yoghurt, cereals, meats, cheeses, breads, fresh fruit and some typical Bavarian fare.

But, the bathroom...I thought it was fantastic. It was kept very clean and it had a towel warmer right in the shower on the wall. Even though the vanity is a bit small; we made it work. The hotel did not provide any toiletries except for shower gel in the shower, but did have a hair dryer and cosmetics mirror.

Lastly, there is only one small wardrobe in the corner of the bedroom for clothes with a drawer; but my husband and I made it work. I would think it might be quite small for someone on an extended stay of over a week.

I would definitely stay here again as it is reasonably priced and would absolutely recommend it to friends and family.

“Nice hotel, basic but very clean, great breakfast and great location”

Cosmopolitan Hotel

Jul 2, 2008

Stayed here for 4 nights in June and had a great time. First impressions of hotel from the outside were that it was awful!!! But inside it is lovely - kind of basic but with very comfy beds and very clean. Great buffet breakfast, very quiet at night, no doors slamming or noisy guests. Great location, just off a lovely wide tree-lined main street with shops, restaurants and cafes, many of them with outdoor seating. The hotel street itself also had nice shops and was quiet and safe. Underground station nearby. Only drawbacks were that to get to the elevator you had to go down about ten steps, which was not easy with a heavy suitcase!! Also, the reception staff were not exactly friendly! Would definitely stay here again though.

“Staff Goes The Extra Mile”

Cosmopolitan Hotel

4 of 5 stars
Granite, Maryland
Mar 1, 2008

My companion left her purse on the Underground train. The hotel's staff offered to go to the train station to retrieve it for her once we confirmed that they had it -- wow -- this is really going the extra mile. They were also happy to make her an extra key (big metal type) when she told them the key was lost with the purse. The staff are all young and (mostly--see below) can-do.

The Cosmopolitan is the low end 3-star of the Geisel group of 4 hotels in Munich. It is in the hip and sophisticated area of Scwabing, about 10 minutes by taxi from the historic area and only 2 blocks from the large English Garden.

Rooms were fine for a 3-star and internet free and worked great. Rooms have a walk-out balcony which was really nice since we lucked out and had nice sunny mild weather. They have both courtyard rooms and street-facing rooms -- so you can choose quiet or interesting action. The street they're on is not too busy, so I was streetside and it made for interesting gazing.

Downside -- the carpet in the corridor and on stairs was overly worn. Also, we assumed they'd be able to print a document for us but they said "the printer is down" and were helpless to do anything about it.

“Good Value”

Cosmopolitan Hotel

The hotel was in a good location in the Schwabing Distict. The metro was about 5 minutes away and the English Garden was fairly nearby. There were plenty of restaurants, bars, gelato shops, etc. on the main road.
The room itself was okay but considering it was about 89 euros a night, it was as good as expected. There was a balcony overlooking the street. With no air in the room, we had to open the windows so it got a bit loud but was not too disturbing. There is only 1 lift/elevator which was not very quick. We took the stairs to the 5th floor several times.
The staff at the front desk was very helpful offering to get information on train schedules for us. They called our room with the information.
The breakfast was fairly standard for an inclusive breakfast. The staff kept the items refilled.
I strongly suggest a bike tour while in Munich. We went to do Mike's Bike Tour and accidentally ended up in the Discover Munich Bike Tour. There is a charge for Mike's which I was more than willing to pay. When we realized we were in the wrong area, it was too late. We did Discover Munich which does not charge but accepts tips. It was very good and we saw the Mike's tour at most of our stops so I think they are similar. Either way, do a bike tour. It is far from strenuous but a great way to see the city.

“Great Stay”

Cosmopolitan Hotel

Actually I looked for the anna hotel which is a centrally located design hotel in Munich. As this hotel was already fully booked (the whole city was packed due to a fair) I discovered the Cosmopolitan as a sister hotel on their homepage.
First of all I was kind of disappointed because the Cosmopolitan is located in another district of Munich, called Schwabing.
However when I arrived i found a lot of shops, bars and restaurants in this area.
The hotel is a real bargain as WiFi is complimentary and breakfast is included in the room rate. I was surprised that the breakfast buffet was still open and was even refilled at 10.30 am. (Quite amazing for 3 stars!)
The staff there is very attentive, friendly and helpfull.
Although I had some doubts in regard to the other rating, I would definitely recommend the Cosmopolitan Hotel and stay there again.
