Terrific little hotel. The lobby and courtyard are gorgeous and the location can't be beat. Although on a quiet, residential street, its less than a 5-minute walk to the main areas of munich for shopping, tourist sites, restaurants, etc as well as only a half block from the U-bahn train. Room was a bit tiny but perfectly acceptable for the great rate we got. Breakfast was full-service and positively delightful. We would definitely recommend the Opera and certainly will stay again if given the chance.

We stayed at the Opera Hotel in June '04 for a weekend. The first comment i have to make is about the location - it is excellent! You feel like you are in the heart of a little community with locals pushing prams and walking dogs, but 20 steps up the street (and under a Medieval Arch) you are in cental Munich.
The bed was super comfortable ensuring a good night's sleep, but beware of the local church bells in the morning - they are very persistent! Although it is really a quite pleasant sound to start the day.
Breakfast was good, heary and typically over the top in german style.
The Hotel restaurant, which is actaully a few doors up from the hotel, was amazing for dinner! Gorgeous food and impecable service. Go there!
There is also a very cool bar across the street which has excellent coffee in the mornings and great wine and atmosphere at night.
Back to the hotel - the only downside was the very cramped and 70's-style bathroom. Not in keeeping with the simple elegance of the room at all.
Overall, a lovely little find in a great neighbourhood, but please renovate those bathrooms!

Recommended by family friend who lives in Munich. Great boutique hotel with fantastic Marienplatz central location to the best shopping and dining. Great service and trendy decor. Breakfast was great too! No brainer alternative to larger more expensive hotels. I'd go back in a heartbeat.
