“Nice hotel, walking distance to city center”

Our hotel room was very nice, extremely clean, and it even had a balcony.
Reception staff was very friendly.
Breakfast was 14 Euro, but it was definitely worth it.
Location is ok - not exactly in the city center. About a 5 - 10 minutes walk before you reach the edge of the city center, but the area is ok, so no problem at all.

“Very pleased with our stay”

I had struggled to find accomodation for a 3 night stay in Nuremberg Friday 7th to Monday 11th December, very popular with the Christmas markets. Eventually myself & the wife plumped for the Derag Maximilion even though they could only offer us a twin room for our stay. On booking in, however, they had changed our room & we found ourselves in a Double, with lounge (sofa & tv) & with a small kitchenette (microwave/cooker/fridge) & bathroom(bath&shower). Whats more the main breakfast room for the hotel was opposite our door!
We found the hotels location excellent - 5 minutes walk from the efficient U-Bahn (Gostenhof) - from which the Hotel was clearly signposted.
Breakfast was great, three hot choices & an extensive cold buffet range. There was also a wide range of Speciality Teas to choose from which we appreciated.
By taking the U-Bahn to Lorenzkirche (3 mins) you come out right in the middle of the Old town Kristkindl markets.
The Derag chain now provide you with two bottles of Bitburg beer & two bottles of water FREE every day - which was also appreciated. We were so impressed with our stay that we will look to stay in a derag establishment anytime we visit cities in which they have a Hotel!

We booked this hotel for two nights based on previous reviews and the pictures shown on the internet. The purpose was to enjoy the excellent Christmas Market that Nuremberg offers during December.

Unfortunately due to circumstances beyond our control, we were delayed and had to spend the first night in Zurich. We called the Maximilian to let them know that we would only arrive the next morning. After arriving, we were given keys to a room in a different building. To get to the room, we had to walk through the basement, and the parking garage only to climb about five flights of stairs (very confusing and not clearly sign posted at all).

Having specifically requested a non-smoking room, we were disappointed to walk into the most foul-smelling room. Absolutely everything smelled of stale smoke - bedding included. Also, we requested a double bed and were given a room with two singles pushed together (whilst common in Europre, the pictures of the room showed otherwise). We immediately phoned reception and were told that the hotel was 'fully booked'. After a second (and more forceful call from my unimpressed girlfriend) the receptions staff 'magically' found another room for us - this time in the main building. A good start, but the new room still stank of smoke. The bathroom light did not work, and after the maintenance team fiddled with the electrical board, the light came on, but only until the next morning.

Our 'quality double' room with 'Traditional style decor in white or cream with antique style furnishings' was completely mis-sold to us. The room had dated, brown 1970's style furniture and brown carpets which made it feel old and dirty. The pictures bear absolutely no resemblance to the room we were given.

I suspect that because we missed our first night, we were transferred to a different room - clearly not a quality double! Despite this, and the rude reception staff, the breakfast was excellent with attentive and friendly staff. The ONLY good point (oh and the 'free' beer).

We will NEVER be back - thanks for ruining our weekend.

“Excellent value”

We have just spent a weekend in Nuremberg for the Christmas market opening ceremony. Absolutely delighted with the hotel's friendly staff and the rooms are spacious (double with kitchenette) and excellent value. Having spent fortunes on "4 star" hotels in France we were delighted with the superior quality of this 3 star hotel. The breakfast room was relaxed, service attentive and we were given plenty of options for a hearty 5 course (my preference, ahem!) start to the day.
The hotel is a 15 minute walk from the main market square but you are quickly within the old town walls and able to stroll Nuremberg's picturesque streets.
In the evening the hotel was exceptionally popular for both meals and drinks in the ground floor restaurant/bar area which was very affordably priced. Nuremberg is a wonderful destination for the Christmas market and the atmoshere (like the locals) is genuinely friendly. Superb value and a great start to the Chritsmas season!

Not close to old Town, the room was very plain, the furniture was
laminated particle board. The breakfast was good but there was a weird feature- the bed was in nook with a wall at the feet
and ways to walk out on both sides. I would not stay there again. The staff was nice and the place was clean.
