Best location in San Sebastian! The views are spectacular. Rooms are very big as are the balconies. Lovely outdoor pool (but no view from it).
The views from some of the rooms are great if one gets the right room. We found the quality and quantity of food to be very bad. They seem to treat package tours as some form of inferior traveller.
service in the bar was slow. The hotel does not warrant a 4 star rating by any means.
scotty dublin.
The view from the hotel more than makes up for the distance away from town. You need to take take the funicular (train up/down the mountain) or the bus into town, so its not quite walking distance - you could but it's not a safe road at night. Taxi costs about 7 or 8 euro.
The rooms are very spacious and clean with a good size bathroom with lots of hot water and plenty of toiletries. Very comfy beds. Although the hairdryer is adequate I would recommend bringing your own. It also has a minibar. Near the reception there is a bar with a huge lounge and a stunning view of the coast and the island. This is simply breathtaking.
Breakfast was also very nice (cereal, lots of breads, yoghurt, jams, ham, cheese, and cooked breakfast. The toast and cooked breakfast are reserved for other guests (I was part of a tour group), so this was a bit annoying. Staff were quite strict about this and I thought this attitude was ridiculous.
Evening dinner was good. No choice for us (tour group), but was very filling and featured lots of fish, so don't expect a juicy steak! But you can order lovely looking dishes (with meat!) if you want to. The evening staff were wonderful - very helpful and accommodating.
All in all, I have to say that the hotel was very good. Not quite a 4 star, but excellent all the same. If you don't mind the hike up the mountain and are prepared to take a taxi or bus (bus stop down the road a bit from the hotel), it has the best views of San Sebastian in town.
Stayed in Monte Igueldo for 2 nights in June. The hotel has stunning views and it is hard to imagine a better view. Luckily we got a corner room on the 2nd night, which offered a panoramic view of San Sebastian. Stunning. Other than the view, however the hotel has little to offer. The exterior to the building is dated and ugly and the interior much the same. It is not now a 4 star but may have been back in the 1980s. Unfortunately we also got charged for breakfasts even though we didn't have any. I wouldn't stay here for more than one night and I certainly wouldn't stay here without a sea view and ideally the corner room view. Also, on the Sunday night, when all was quiet we waited in the bar for a taxi. It was disappointing to see empty glasses on several tables given that there was no one there. Also a recipt left on out table from 3hours previously. Poor standards!
Stayed for two nights. Room was clean and comfortable, with a good bathroom, private balcony and great view (when the mist lifted!). We were surprised with how nice it was having read the reviews. The reception staff were charming and helpful at all times. Admittedly it's not an attractive building and it has a slightly odd location next to a fun fair which was deserted most of the time. Arriving in swirling mist to find the hotel looming beside the entrance to the 'Casa del terror' was a bizarre experience. The (also slightly odd) funicular down to the seafront runs every 15 mins until 8pm (in May). It's a fairly long walk round to the old town, although there is a great beach close to the bottom of the funicular. Be prepared for a taxi ride or two in the evenings. And avoid breakfast at the hotel - overpriced and not at all good.
