Have just returned from five days at the Melia Palas Atenea and thoroughly enjoyed it. The location was excellent, as mentioned previously it is worth up-grading to the sea/cathedral view as it is spectacular. It is a good 20-25 minutes walk to the shopping centre but that isn't a problem as it is along the harbour all the way.
The breakfasts are outstanding and offer everything you can think of including cava and red/white wine.
The outdoor pool area is very nice, supplying towels and a pleasant life-guard, so don't take any beach towels. I thought the indoor pool was a little run down and not very inviting.
We had a massage whilst there as they offer a full range of beauty treatments and would certainly recommend that.
Palma itself has some excellent restaurants near the cathedral and the most we paid for two people was 60 euros. Went on the bus tour but was a little disappointed as it took us around the backstreets and there wasn't an awful lot to see!
My only criticism with the hotel is that it is a little dated and does need refurbishment, however for the price I would certainly stay there again.
