Just back after long weekend (4 days) at Mirador. We had read many reviews of this place before we went.. but everyone has there own perspective on things.. so here is ours.
Overall we had an excellent experience with the hotel.
Location - next door to Azul hotel and beside Tryp Bellver.
On the main no.1 bus route from airport (ask for Costa Azul stop).
Taxi from airport was 18 euros, taxis from cathedral area - 4 euros. Taxi stop next door at the Tryp Bellver.
About a 15 minute amble to the La Llota / Cathedral area with tapas bars etc.
Lovely views of harbour and seriously expensive yachts !
Rooms - we had booked an upper floor room with sea view, as some reviews suggested noise. We were placed on 3rd floor, but offered 8th floor, by "the not so grumpy older man on" reception. He said we would prefer to stay on 3rd floor - we did. He was very amiable, and we joked about it - perhaps a clash of personalities with other reviewers.
Noise is not noticable - there are good double glazed windows / balcony door - only noise is when you open them and hear the traffic below. Room was very clean and a decent size, minibar, hairdryer, TV etc (no tea/coffee - but why bother when cafes are everywhere), there is electric room ventilation - but it is not air con so does not go as cold as some would like, but does provide a comfortable temperature - this is the only noise you'll hear with your door closed and curtains drawn.
Breakfast is a large hot/cold buffet and you can sit out on the terrace (remember your sunglasses!) it runs from 8am till 11am - so no excuses !!
Spa / pool - a comfortable area on 3rd floor - pool is small (about 25 feet long), but it is meant to be... it is a resistance pool, where you get in and push a button swim against jets of water (you can vary the speed of the jets also) - a lot tougher than doing lengths !!
There are deckchairs to sit and relax and also sauna, steam room, jacuzzi and 2 shower areas. A good spot for a quick morning / early evening refresher before heading out. We were on a city break so not concerned with lying by a pool all day, so it served our purposes well. Open from 9 am to 8pm, but we were in it at 8.45pm on the Sat night - so I guess hours are flexible.
Overall, a very good spot for a short break, or maybe slightly longer. Probably more suited to couples rather than families, where a resort would be better. there were some families there and we spoke to them about it - they were very happy also as they were using it as a base to see Palma and area - they didn't like the "lie around pool" resort type hotels.
As suggested probably not a 4 star (by english tourist board standards), but close enough for the excellent value. It is definitely Spanish 4 star - believe me... I''ve been in 2,3,4 and 5 star hotels in Spain and this is pretty good.
Would we return ?? ..... yes - we booked for August bank holiday as we were checking out.
