“Disappointing Experience”

Mirador

May 15, 2007

This was our third 3 day break in Palma a city we have come to love, however our experience at the Mirador made it our worst break.
The receptionist a very grumpy male in his late 50s' was very unhelpful with all requests made during our stay.We are a couple in our mid 30's and were not treated with any respect at all and you got a very anti english feel from him.
The hotel is in desperate need of a re-fit we asked for a double bed but got two single beds which couldn't be pushed together as they were old rickerty wooden framed beds. The room was hot as it doesn't have air-conditioning as advertised but two electric fans which blow out warm air even when on the cold setting! We asked for it to be looked at but nothing was done.
We were put on the fourth floor room 409 this overlooks a public access and was very noisey with people walking by, there is still building work at the back of the hotel and will affect those that stay on or above floor 5 and have a room at the back.
The out door pool is a large bath which was empty!
We booked the Mirador as according to the map on justonehotel.com it is closer to the centre than the Hotel Costa Azul where we had stayed previously. This map is wrong!! The Mirador is further away than the Costa Azul so do not be fooled!! Overall I would not recommend staying at the Hotel Mirador we paid 90 euros a night which is far to expensive it is advertised as a 4 star but would only scrape a two star in reallity.

“Nice Views, Bizarre Layout”

Mirador

I got stranded in Palma coming back from Seville to Edinburgh on business on Friday night as the incoming flight was late and my connection to Edinburgh had gone. So, a night in sunny Mallorca beckoned. Luckily, my company have a 24 hour emergency travel desk and they managed to find the Mirador.

When you arrive at a hotel, late at night, you are tired hungry and ready for an argument because you just want to get home and I was ready to get upset if there were check in problems. However, Miguel on the front desk couldn't have been friendlier. He was helpful and efficient (I know, should come as standard) and after a seamless check-in, insisted on calling the porter to show me to my room as it was 'a bit complicated'. He wasn't wrong - I have never come across such a challenge! Lift up to the 4th, up a flight of stairs and cross the landing to another lift to the 8th floor then another flight of stairs to the 9th. By the time I got to my room I was completely lost.

The room itself was comfortable and clean with a well equipped and spacious bathroom but it was let down by the tired old furniture. New beds and bedside cabinets would make this hotel something special. The tiled floor was pleasantly cool with a small rug by the bed. TV and mini bar were contained in large cabinets covering one wall along with the spacious wardrobe.

It was late and I just wanted to find the nearest restaurant to grab some dinner and if you turn right out of the hotel there are a few bars/restaurants/cafes and I went for Giorgio's where a lot of locals seemed to be eating. Had a very pleasant loin of pork, chips and a large beer for EUR 16 which was reasonable.

After a good night's sleep, I had a wonderful buffet breakfast overlooking the harbour and the cathedral watching the sun come up. Suddenly, all the tribulations of the previous day were washed away!

“Interesting but strange hotel”

Mirador

Nov 7, 2006

A neat, clean little hotel with a strange elevator system. The front elevator goes to the 4th fl, but if your room is on the 5 or above, you have to drag your luggage across the 4th fl and up a flight of stairs to get to the needed elevator to get to your room.
The desk staff was ruled by a very stern old guy who ordered everyone around. Maybe Francisco Franco come back to life.
Rooms were neat and clean but the cleaning staff could use a reminder about quiet on sunday mornings. At 8am they were chattering loudly and it echos thru the marbled hallways. They kept banging on my door asking me if I wanted the room made up, eventhough the door was double locked and I obviously wanted to sleep.
At first I thought they had a bad wireless system for computer use, but it turned out they didn't have one at all. The wireless internet service I was accessing was someone in a nearby apt building with no security on it. The desk manager said they were due to have wireless installed in the next few weeks, but it will only be accesable in one corner of the lobby. go figure.
Overall, a safe, clean place to stay, but not worth more than 70 euros a night. It's rated as a 4 star hotel, but really its a 3 star.
There's a certain mindset to Mallorca- What can you say about a place where the Cathedral is closed on sundays. Just relax and enjoy it, and the Mirador is a reasonable place to do it from.

“Stay only a few days”

Me and my wife had a doubleroom in this hotel for 9 nights.
This room was situated at the farther end of the hotel.
Obviously this part of the hotel had been a seperate hotel with a lower standard. The beds were terrible and you can hear erverything outside the room, its difficult to sleep.
The noise from outside was loud to hear.
On the other hand the breakfast- buffet was great, the view over Palma beach from the breakfastroom wonderful.
If you get a room at the front part of the hotel it will be fine.
But take no room at the farther end.

“More 2 star than 4 star”

Mirador

Very disapointed in this hotel which has 4 star rating. Staff at reception most unhelpful and rude with an abrupt attitude. Construction work being done at side of hotel, room allocated was at this side of hotel very noisey and dusty. Staff reluctant to give a change of room, as hotel was fully booked. (It did not seem to be busy) According to reception manager we could have had an upgrade for 50euro per day per person. We discussed this with another staff member at reception, who informed us that 30euro was the standard rate for an upgrade??. The brochure discription of this hotel is not true nor do they have all the facilities the claim to offer. Myself and a friend booked this hotel for a week, this was our annual holiday, I have never had a bad holiday before, but this was my holiday from hell. This day and age you expect a four star hotel, at the very least to have comfortable beds, reception staff a bit of courtesy, sadly not in this hotel. I would not stay in the Mirador ever again.
