This was our first visit to Lanzarote so we wern't sure what to expect. Our first impressions of the Lomo Blanco were not great, the location was good being in between the new and old towns, but the reception area was tired and shabby. We had requested a room in the refurbished block (having read the reviews) but were allocated a room in block A. I asked reception to change it which they did but with much huffing and puffing.
The apartment itself was lovely, clean modern and spacious. Our son slept on the bed settee and said it was comfy. (he's 14 and 5' 9")
The walls were thin which was a nuisance at 4am when the 'neighbours' came in!
The sheets were only changed once in the week and the towels twice although the apartment was cleaned 3 times.
We had 2 toasters one of which fused everything when we tried to toast with it!! Everything else worked well and we had no complaints at all. In fact the shower was fantastic!
There are 2 pools, a large one at the front with a child pool which was very busy and noisy, and a smaller one at the back which was quieter. The sunbeds were all taken early by people putting towels on and going off til later sometimes tea time! There were quiet a few cracked and broken. There are not enough parasols and the few there are were ripped or damaged.
We ate in the snack bar once. After we had eaten my son said 'whats floating in the oil?' There were flies floating at the bottom of the oil and when I told staff they laughed! No attempt was made to remove the oil or remedy the problem. Needless to say we didn't eat there again!!
There are 154 steps down to the beach and the new town so this may be a problem to people with walking difficulties, they also smell of urine and worse. The 'strip' gets really busy at night with numerous restaurants and bars with touts trying to get you in. It's a really lively atmosphere. We found a lovely restaurant virtually on the beach called 'Terazza Playa' . Lovely grilled Tuna, and Tiramassu!
The old town is much quieter, you can watch the locals playing boules while you eat!
We visited 'Timanfaya National Park' which is where the active volcanos are. This is well worth a visit, the landscape is beautiful and fascinating! A camel ride was in with the price which was an experience but not to be missed!
All in all Lanzarote is worth visiting if only for the glorious weather and the volcanos. Puerto del Carmen is great if you are looking for lively nightlife. Lomo Blanco could be great if more care was taken to cleanliness but for a 2 star hotel it wasn't bad at all!
