“Second Time/Mixed Review”

Hotel Calipolis

This is my 3rd time to Sitges, 2nd time at the Calipolis. Had a great room (number 621) directly facing the beach and a double wide balcony, half covered/half open. Renovated room at the end of the hall so very little room-to-room noise. Nicely restyled.
Amazing to watch the moon glisten on the water.

Stayed in a jr suite the last time which, frankly, had too much wasted space and didn't face the beach directly.

The only problem: stayed during Sitges Festival. On the Saturday night, the party on the beach was so loud, even with ear plugs, sleep was impossible. On Thursday and Friday nights the music went until 3 but on Saturday night, it went until 5am. Until 3am it was Spanish music. From 3 to 5 it was a disco so loud my room actually vibrated. Have to say it was great music, but not what I had paid for.

When I commented upon check out on Monday, and note I said "commented," not "complained," the response was, "Well, this is just for one night each year." Can't say I got much support from that.

Would I stay here again? Yes, and would like to have the same room, but, if during the festival, I'd plan on being out there with the party rather than trying to sleep.

“Good Location, Excellent Breakfast, No Atmosphere”

Stayed here twice. The first time, guests had access to a communal pool on the beach front which was amazing. The second time, they had built their own paddle pool so the communal pool was off limits. The paddle pool is too small for anything other than to get wet....plus it falls into the shade quite quickly.

Location was grand. its at the end of the center of the town...a mere 5min walk into the bars and restaurant. Its on the sea front, with the beach 30seconds away.

The breakfast has everything you could want. The rooms are Ok. we had a semi-sea view. Beach to the left, hotel facing and hills somewhere to the right....

The clientele, from my experience, are primarily senior citizens.
I probably wouldnt stay here again, as I think there are probably better...

  • This TripAdvisor Member:
    • Liked — it wasn't BAD in any regard.
    • Disliked — the paddle pool is pointless. the whole pool area just doesn't work.

“Pleasant memories”

Hotel Calipolis

I arrived at the Calipolis with mixed feelings and expectations based on the Tripadvisor reviews. The exterior of the hotel is in stark contrast with its interior design: with my room on the top floor and a stunning view of the sea and the well-groomed promenade, my mixed feelings soon disappeared. The neatly furnished and decorated room was not huge but to make up for this, the bathroom was rather spacious and extremely well stocked with toiletries. Do not expect tea and coffee making facilities though. AC was also OK although not really indispensable in mid-June. WIFI worked well in the room, though the card I bought was for one go, no log on, log off possibilities. The only computer in the hall would have been cheaper but is was always booked. The breakfast room opened at 8 sharp, no matter how many guests queued in front of the doors. Breakfast was excellent, good variety of cooked and cold dishes. Breakfast could go for a five-star facility. The swimming pool was a joke, only good for decoration for poolside parties. The beaches across the road, however, were close. Deckchairs were quite expensive compared to other similar beaches a bit further south the coast, but of course you can always choose lo lie in the sand free of charge. All in all, Calipolis was a pleasant surprise after the negative reviews I had read. I have to admit though that colleagues said that I was lucky enough to get one of the best rooms on the top floor. As a conference participant I got a special rate of €130 for B&B which I felt was reasonable for the location of the hotel and my room. Sitges, except for one minor but not disturbing shortcoming, is a wonderful place. The beachfront is lined with pleasant restaurants of which Santa Maria is a must. If you take a flight home from Barcelona, choose the bus rather than the train to the airport.

“Refused to repay deposit”

Our party of 5 couples booked in June 2006, five Junior Suite, at a rate of €130 a night for May 2007. We each paid a deposit of €97.50, which would be deducted from our final bill. When we checked in, the
reception staff tried to tell us that the Standard rooms we were given were Junior Suites. Then after we complained they told us that all of the Junior Suites had been given out to a large conference being held at the same time as our stay. Complaining did no good,as the reception staff were not interested. We spoke to the Directora Comercial who whilst she listened, she also was unable to help but agreed to give us a rate of €85 a night for the Standard Rooms - which were very basic indeed.

Upon checking out some of us forgot about out deposit, but when we contacted the hotel a couple of days later, to have our deposits refunded, they eventually told us that our deposit was in addition to the €85 quoted as the Standard rooms were in fact €115 a night. One of the couples upon checking out did remember to ask for their deposit and after a lengthy argument were refunded their €97.50.

No amount of correspondences along with contacting the Head Office in Barcelona, achived anything. We will never stay at the Calipolis again.

“Service much better compared to 2006!!!”

We stayed for the 2nd time and I must admit the service of the front desk staff and the breakfast waiters is much, much better now. It seems somebody from the hotel management must have read all those negative comments about their staff. However, we were - despite a very low rate booked through (--) - lucky to got upgraded to a Junior suite. Only the early breakfast time during the week and the small pool we didn't like that much. I will always stay here again, if affordable.
