“Very disappointed”

I was in Sitges for a friends wedding. From my arrival in the hotel I found the staff unfriendly. I arrived on a late flight and was left standing in hotel reception for 15 minutes before I was looked after by an unwelcoming receptionist who did not even offer to take my bag to my room for me (I was travelling alone). 4* service I don't think so.

This was the least of my problems. The room was shabby and dated. The beige bathroom needed modernisation and the icing on the cake... the safe was stolen out of my room on my last night. Passport, jewellery, money all gone. Luckily I had friends staying in a nearby hotel. The night of the theft the staff were completely disinterested. The called the police who were also unhelpful. The next day I had to make arrangements to get home without my passport by calling airlines, embassy etc. The receptionist on was slightly more helpful but still did not offer to let us use the hotel phone to make calls until we had nearly finished making arrangements. We had to call from our Irish mobiles.

I found the service in this 4* ??? hotel terrible and overpriced. I would not recommend it at all.

“Very nice hotel outside downtown Sitges”

My husband and I just went back to the Estela after 7 years to celebrate our anniversary right where it all began. Because it has been such a long time that we stayed in the Estela we looked at the recent reviews on Trip Advisor and were slightly worried that the standard of the hotel might have changed from what we remembered. But
to our surprise it was still the same standard and we are slightly startled by some of the reviews left on Trip Advisor.

The hotel is very modern, clean with very big, comfortable rooms. They are all designed in different styles and although it might not be everybodies taste (I mean the paintings on the wall) in the end it is only a hotel room. Important to us is that you have a spacious
room, a balcony overlooking the sea, a good bed and a nice bathroom and the Estela certainly ticks all those boxes. We wouldn't recommend
this hotel as a "holiday resort", however if you just want to get away for a long weekend and be by the sea, away from the buzz of Barcelona, then the Estela is certainly our tip. The breakfast is outstanding (incl. Parma Ham, various pastries, cheeses, fruit, yoghurt, scrambled egg, bacon, sausages, juices, cornflakes, toast, bread and even Champagne on a Sunday). We had one lunch in the hotel and even that was very nice. The pool area is very small, but again if you just want a bit of "get away" and sunbathe it doesn't matter. The good thing was that we had the pool area nearly every day to ourselves. The staff at the Estela went out of their way to help us and fulfill our wishes. They have all been very friendly.

The beach down by the Estela is probably not the greatest, but this is down to everybodies personal taste (I am a bit spoiled having grown up on an island with the most beautiful beach). The walk into Sitges takes about 15 to 20 minutes. Please note that the restaurants
will be empty before 10pm and most of them don't even open before 8pm. This is the Spanish way, so if you don't want to sit all by yourself you have to wait a loooooong time. We have travelled a lot and are quite fussy, however I am not a fussy eater, but was struggling big time to find a restaurant that serves food that sounded appealing. I just could not get my head around eating "pork trotters filled with xxxx" or "rabbit with snails" or "xxxxx gizzards". We were struggling to even find a normal Pizza restaurant and the one we went to on our first evening (right beneath the hotel in the harbour) was absolutely disgusting. One night we found a "barbecued chicken" place downtown, which doesn't look very flash, but the food was surprisingly nice (and simple). All in all we had a good time and can recommend this hotel.

“staff suffering from hospitality fatigue”

Good quiet location away from Sitges town, we had a large suite full of "art installations". I thought it looked pretty dated especially the beige bathroom. Quite a lot of noise from the adjoining rooms. The whole experience would have been better if just once in our three day stay there a member of the staff had greeted us or even smiled. We have stayed at most of the four star hotels in Sitges, I wouldnt go back to this one.

“Beautifully peaceful”

Hotel Estela

Sep 13, 2005

Initially we had a great deal of difficulty finding this hotel as it is at the far end of Sitges at the port and not on the main strip as holiday brochures imply. However, the hotel itself is like staying in an art gallery - fantastic sculptures and paintings everywhere. This hotel is geared towards adults who want a peaceful holiday away from screaming children and the noise of the town. The hotel has 2 lovely small pools and is also right next to the beach. The hotel DOES NOT CASH EURO CHEQUES. This caused a big problem over the weekend. However, the big hotel nearby does. The only setback is that if you do want to go into the main town it's a long walk or you need to take a taxi. If you hire a car, the car parks are expensive. Barcelona is about 25 miles away, not 10 as one brochure told us. The train station is in main Sitges and the trains are really cheap. If you do use the roads, there is a toll booth on the new road just outside Sitges towards Barcelona which cost 4.47 Euros at the time of writing. We had a great holiday. Hope you do too.

“Best hotel in the world”

Having seen a few of the reviews on this site, I don't know what is going on. I am in no way affiliated with this hotel, but I have stayed there many times. My job used to involve travelling and staying in hotels, throughout the world, and I can say without a doubt, this is the best hotel I have ever stayed in (with the possibel exception of a hotel in Costa Rica). It is not expensive. The restaurant is exceptionally good value for money (compared with local restaurants). The rooms are fantastic. The hotle boasts an artist who has painted may of the rooms. The lobby is designed by Subirachs, who worked on the Sagrada Familia. You can get a room with a view of the beach and the port and the town. The staff are super friendly.
