“Pretty good value”

La Nina Hotel

4 of 5 stars
London
May 28, 2008

I recently stayed at this hotel with my partner for a long weekend and found it to be one of the nicer hotels in central Sitges. The hotel has its disadvantages but the advantages outweigh the not so great points.

Advantages:
1) location - very central, everything is within walking distance including the beach which is directly across the street.
2) The rooms are clean and daily cleaning service makes things much nicer because often sand is dragged in from the beach
3) The bathrooms are modern and offer some very basic toiletries (so don't rely on them providing lotions and shampoos of any quality). There is plenty of nice creme soap, though!
4) There are plenty of areas to eat, both inside and outside
5) The roof top pool is lovely - great views from there but the water wasn't heated so didn't even attempt to get in!
6) wireless internet access is definitely a plus - get the code from reception. There is a pc for general use in the lobby if you don't have your own.

Disadvantages:
1) Beds are seriously hard for my liking and feel like they could be quite old.
2) The breakfast wasn't great, but that was just our view - Its a standard basic continental breakfast. However, there was a fair selection of cold meats and breads and had boiled or fried eggs (neither of which I liked).
3) The price wasn't great for a basic room. I thought it was a bit pricey for what you actually get, so I probably wouldn't stay there again. We ended up having a room in the back overlooking the private balconies of the apartment block behind us. We didn't go for the ocean view because I was concerned about the noise and the price considering we spent most of the time outside rather than in the hotel.

I am aware of another fairly nice hotel which friends have stayed in and say is still basic but on the nice side, and that is the Calypolis hotel. We did have drinks there and it was very expensive for what you get so we probably wouldn't be going back. Service was poor, so I only assume you are paying for the location and the quality.

“Fabulous Hotel, but dreadful beds!”

La Nina Hotel

May 25, 2008

We stayed in this hotel in may '08.
The hotel itself is in an excellent location, right on the beach, and very close to the main bars, restaurants and shops, yet nice and quiet.
The hotel itself is excellent, the staff are very friendly, the restaurant's menu's are extensive and the food is of a very high standard.
The rooms are very nice but i would recommend a sea view as the rear facing rooms look onto an apartment block. The facilities in the room are fair (the tv only has bbc1 that is in english), no tea or coffee making facilities.
The room we had was fairly large with both twin/double bed and a double sofa bed in a seperated part of the room.
The only fault I can comment on is the comfort of the beds. Both myself and my partner found ourselves suffering quite badly with back ache/pains for the duration of our stay (something i have never suffered from before!). We even tried sleeping on the sofa bed, but that was no more comfortable.
When i enquired with reception about the possibilty of having a softer more comfortable matress the staff apologised and explained that all the beds and matresses in the hotel were exactly the same!
To overcome this i stocked up on ibuprofen and paracetamol and had a hot bath every morning to relieve the muscular aches and pains!
We would definatley return to this hotel, but maybe not until they replace the beds/matresses!

Lovely hotel in a great location.
We paid extra for a sea view and this was really worth it.
Sitges is a great place for either a short stay or a two week holiday as it is only 30 minutes into Barcelona and the train station is only a 10 minutes walk away.
This hotel is modern and comfortable and the restaurant is particularly good. The roof terrace with small dip pool is a great place for relaxing away from the hustle and bustle of Sitges.

we really loved the hotel and the people working there. everybody so friendly and warm. we got a great stay in a generous and clean room with full service. breakfast only in the morning, so we missed it a lot for the nightlife in sitges!

“Will definitely stay in La Nina again”

Pros:

-excellent location – close to the beach (30 seconds - 1 minute walk) and the tourist attractions (the church and the 2 museums – 10 minute walk) but far from the main bar area so that it’s not noisy at night
-about 15-20 minutes walk from the train station or the Mono bus stop
-breakfast and wireless internet included
-good breakfast selection (and long hours – until 11:00 a.m.)
-friendly and courteous English speaking front desk staff
-nice clean room with a balcony (rear facing room)
-strong water pressure
-environmental friendly policy (posted in the bathroom) to advise guest to re-use towels
-fast response to my e-mails

Cons:

-room is a bit small (but adequate - after all how much time will you spend in your room when you are in a beach town)
-the design of the shower door that splash water on the floor
-small roof top swimming pool (but who cares when you have all those beautiful beaches?
-if you don’t have your lap top with you, there’s only 1 computer you can use in the lobby
-late check-in – my room is not ready until 2:45 p.m. but while waiting, the staff offer me champagne
-I wish the staff in the restaurant (during breakfast hours) can be as friendly as the front desk staff

La Nina is much better then Hotel Calipolis (they are next to each other) and much better value for your money. I walked by other so-called 4 star hotels in Sitges and as far as I can tell, La Nina is better than the others.
