“Fantastic stay at the Intercontinental Madrid”

InterContinental Madrid Hotel

5 of 5 stars
London
May 12, 2008

We've recently returned from a weekend in Madrid and were fortunate enough to have stayed at the Intercontinental. The hotel itself is very clean and the room we stayed in was fantastic. On returning from a shopping trip on our first day we arrived back in our room to find an ice bucket with a chilled bottle of Brut Cava, a box of chocolates, fresh strawberries dipped in chocolate and a welcome note. Nice touch. Later on that evening we were undecided as to where to go to eat so we spoke with the concierge who recommended a traditional Spanish restaurant and we ended up having one of the best steaks we've ever had. The doormen were polite, friendly and very helpful, in fact, every member of staff that we encountered in the hotel could not do enough to make our stay as pleasant as possible. With regards to location the hotel is less than 10 minutes walk from Serrano and Goya (excellent shopping areas). The breakfast was also very good. Being a five star hotel extras are not cheap - we paid 11 EUR for two bottles of still water in the bar. The weekend was a treat and you can't expect things to be cheap when staying in a five star establishment. We would highly recommend this to any person looking to stay in Madrid whether it be for a couple of nights or longer and whether for business or pleasure. All in all, a lovely experience.

“Above average but not fabulous”

InterContinental Madrid Hotel

My husband and I stayed at the Intercontinental for 2 days in early April. The hotel was nice, but we had a room that overlooked the lower rooftop heating or a/c vents, so absolutely no view. We also had 2 twin beds pushed together, and I'm pretty sure that's not what I booked. The room and bathroom were very nice. Breakfast was excellent, but 69 Euros for the 2 of us each morning. It was quite a walk to get to the center of the city. If I were going back for sight-seeing, I'd try to find something a little closer to the city center.

“A nice stay in the IC Madrid”

The Intercontinental Madrid is located on the Castellana,
in short walking distance to Serrano luxury shopping area and
within few minutes taxi ride to the centre of the city (Sol).
It overlooks the busy street, but fortunatelly the room was
completely soundproof.

Upon request, seamless limousine airport transfers were
provided.

Staff are very kind and helpful throughout the hotel.
There is an Club Intercontinental Lounge which is a pleasant
spot and provides a nice selection for breakfast however
otherwise the variety of refreshments available in the Lounge
is rather limited compared to the other InterContinental hotel
lounges I have been to.

The Picasso Suite I stayed in was spacious, luxuriously
furnished and very comfortable. The hotel building is not
new but all areas seemed renovated and well kept.

Only downside is that the hotel just has a small gym
and no other wellness and relaxation facilities. They told
me however that they are planning to open a new spa soon (?).

Would definitelly stay in this hotel again espec as there are
not many other luxury hotel options in Madrid.

“Good Choice for Madrid but only marginally above average”

InterContinental Madrid Hotel

I have stayed at this hotel three times in the last year whilst on business, I always in a standard room with king size bed.

The hotel is of a reasonable standard and is definitely aimed towards the business traveller.

Pros:
• Clean rooms
• Good room service
• Great bar and restaurant
• Water pressure in the shower

Cons:
• Terrible quilts (2 single quilts on a double bed)
• A little chintzy
• Location is not great for other dining opportunities

Overall, I tend to stay here and will be staying here again within the next year however, I never really enjoy the stay as my sleep is often disturbed due to the bed covers. In the price range it is probably the best option in Madrid but do not expect too much.

“Pleasant Hotel”

I stayed in a regular room with a king-sized bed. The room was not huge by U.S. standards but the furnishings were top-quality and comfortable. The marble bathroom was very large with seperate tub, great selection of toiletries and big 100% cotton towels. Coffee machine, iron with full ironing board and other amenities in the room. The bed was amazingly comfortable with a feather pillow top and feather duvet - like sleeping in a soft warm nest. Elegant public spaces. City centre is about 20 minutes by taxi or shorter by metro; airport is about 20 minutes by taxi. Excellent service from the doorman, porter, and front desk staff.
