“Room w/ a great view”

Grand Hotel Aminta

We stayed here for four nights and we really enjoyed our stay! We splurged on a balcony view room #303 and weren't disappointed! Everyday we sat on our balcony & drank local wine and had great views of the Sorrento coastline & Mt. Vesuvius! It was sureal!

Hotel was clean, the staff was great, they offer the use of computers w/ internet which was awesome! You just ask the front desk for your user name & password.
The room we stayed in had a deep bath tub which was perfect for soaking sore muscles!! Which became a nightly ritual!

Breakfast buffet in the morning was just enough to keep us going till lunch. The coffee was good and they had croissant's, sliced meats, cheeses, yogert and several other danish like goodies! They do offer additional items (bacon, eggs, fresh fruit) for an additional cost.

The restaurant in hotel was pricey but good (we ate there one night and had the place all to ourselves!!) We had the steak filet w/ truffles and a pasta dish that was made out of zucchini flowers which was amazing!! There red house wine was excellent too!

I LOVED walking the trail which takes you down to the town center. It is cobblestone and takes you through olive groves! Walking down & up this every day was one of our highlights! It is about a mile but only takes 10 minutes down & about the same coming back up! We never took the shuttle the hotel has, just didn't seam to work out for us.

We had dinner twice at a wine bar/restaurant called Holiday Pub Inn (Sole di Sorrento) off of Via P.R. Giuliani 66. The food was amazing and the guy running the place (I think he was the owner, he was the only person there His name (I think) was Alberlo he was really nice. His family makes Lucky 7 Limoncello and he gave us lots of samples to try. ( recommend the Limoncello cream)

This was a great base for side trips, we went to Naples, Capri, Pompeii & Amalfi. Sorrento train station & marina is within walking distance (if your up for it) it's about 20-30 minute walk. We only took one taxi and that was when we arrived via train and had no idea where our hotel was. Cost 20 euro's flat fee!

Overall had a great stay here, only complaint I have after 4 days staying here is....... The day we were suppose to check out which was around noon. I went to take a shower and waited.....and waited.....and waited...... NO hot water???? Not sure if they shut the hot water off to get you to checkout earlier! =) but taking a freezing cold shower was not the funniest experiences of my trip! But it sure did wake me up!!

“Wonderful View of Bay of Naples”

Grand Hotel Aminta

I saw a really good review of this hotel on tripadvisor and decided it would suit us. We brought a teenage daughter with us and she really enjoyed the hotel also. Our room had a splendid view of the bay, Sorrento, Mount Vesuvius, and Naples. Just lovely.

The hot breakfast was more than we expected from a European hotel and eggs were made to order with bacon, ham, or sausage, along with delicious melon.

We were very thankful for the help we received from the desk on a minor car mishap... take the bus or train if possible. The driving is very difficult. Their recommendations of La Tavern and O'Parrucchiano restaurants were superb to say the least. Both establishments are very nice and "La Favorita". Take the time to go to both. We went back!

Capri was a beautiful island that is what most people would put on an idyllic place to go. Pedestrian only and the flora is exquisite. The shopping is fun too!

Positano and the Amalfi drive were beautiful, however if twists and turns are not your cup of tea, take the bus! Stop in Positano for some shopping and delicious food overlooking the sea.

    • Disliked — The air conditioner was off for Nov. and when the balcony window was opened at night, a rooster would awaken us in the early am.

“Disappointing based on Tripadvisor reviews”

Grand Hotel Aminta

I had very high expectations based on the reviews on TA. I had booked it via hotels.com and paid extra for a room with balcony and sea view.

First of all. This is not a hotel worth 4.5 out of 5 on the TA rating. I used TA for my hotels in Firenze, Venezia, Paris & London. The ratings for those hotels were consistent with expectations. This was not. I would equate this hotel to a Comfort Inn or a Hojo.

1. Bathroom & toiletries were lacking. You get tiny shampoo bottles and those small slivers of soap. Not even different soaps for facial and body.

2. There is no option to change sheets. Most hotels suggest that for environmental reasons that you not change sheets. Here you don't have an option.

3. HEATING!! It's November. TURN ON THE HEATING! It was explained that the heating is centrally controlled by the main office so it comes on during intervals throughout the day. Fine. But at night it was freezing!! I tried to get them to have it on all the time for us but it was impossible given that it's centrally controlled. My wife was sufferiing from a respiratory infection and this definitely did not help.

4. Breakfast. Simple but not consistent. You did not get the same choice of food in the morning. Sometimes you had salami, others days not. I guess if it's free, there's not much to complain about.

5. Extra charges to use their safe, to use the in-room fridge. These are small things but with the rate I'm paying for a stay in November, I would've expected this to be included.

There's so much more I can say but I hope this gives you a flavour of the place. It's by no means terrible, but it's by no means anywhere as nice as the previous reviewers have made it out to be.

“Wonderful hotel”

Grand Hotel Aminta

4 of 5 stars
Hampshire, England

I have recently returned from the Grand Hotel Aminita with my husband, friend and a young child.

On first arrival at the hotel we were given a warm greating from the hotel staff.

Originally we were booked in to say in the hotel's annex but we were given an upgrade to rooms within the hotel.

The rooms were lovely, overlooking the swimming pool, with balcony, extremely clean, mini bar, safe deposit box and tv. The bathroom was a good size with a very good shower, which is a must.

The hotel restaurant where we had breakfast each morning was very airy and clean, and overlooked the Bay of Naples which was absolutely wonderful. The restaurant staff were very helpful and extremely cheerful and made a huge fuss over our friend's daughter. The buffet breakfast is plentiful and you can even order cooked breakfast i.e., eggs, sausages, bacon etc. We did not take the opportunity of eating in the restaurant in the evening so cannot comment on the food itself.

The hotel provides a free courtesy coach service to and from the centre of Sorrento which is a huge bonus as taxis back and forward would have cost us quite a few Euros. The first coach leaves each morning and 9 am and drops and pickups are throughout the day, the last one at 11.30 pm from Sorrento.

However, there is a walkway down to Sorrento which curves its way through a residential area and hotels, which takes about 15 minutes to reach Sorrento, but it is a good climb back up again, which we did not attempt.

The hotel bar has a good number of table and chairs and again the staff are very helpful, with quite an extensive wine and spirit list.

The reception staff are very helpful in giving information on the surrounding area and also public transport which is extremely cheap and very reliable. A trip to Naples, Capri etc by ferry is a must.

On the whole I would recommend this hotel for its friendliness, easy access to Sorrento and cleanliness. I would certainly be returning to it.

Regards
Mo

“Superb views.”

Grand Hotel Aminta

4 of 5 stars
Basingstoke, United Kingdom
Nov 13, 2007

A clean, spacious and beautifully appointed hotel. The room, a triple, was large, spotless and well equipped, with a luxurious bathroom. Breakfast buffet was excellent and included in our deal but we did pay a little extra for the freshly cooked options from the A La Carte breakfast menu. (They were worth it though!) The views from our room and from the bar were breathtaking and the Neapolitan evening and Gala dinners were good value and substantial.
The resident entertainment on these occasions, Claudio Fiori, with his stunning keyboard/piano skills, (yes, he played both at the same time,) and wonderful voice, really made the evening. Claudio even spent an evening off in the bar during our stay and included his willing audience in an impromptu musical evening. It was great fun.
The pool area is stunning but the weather was not good enough for us to enjoy it.
The hotel is not really within comfortable walking distance of the centre of Sorrento but there is a courtesy bus several times a day, starting early enough to meet up with any organised tours from the town. If you are on a budget, however, beware! It goes without saying that the hotel management would rather you enjoyed their hospitality in the evening and the bus timetable reflects this. Last bus into Sorrento 7.30pm, next bus back 8.30pm, next and final bus back, after 11pm. This means an expensive taxi if you don't want to make a long night of it. This is by no means a criticism. I'd do the same myself if I ran an hotel in a similar location. There is a local bus service but we didn't investigate it.
All in all, we thought the hotel, its facilities, its standards and its staff were fabulous. We would definitely stay again.
