“Excellent Hotel”

Mecenate Palace

We stayed at the Mercenate Palace from 25 February to March 3 2005.

This was our third time there. I reserved a superior room on Golden Tulip's website at a rate of 164 Euros/night including breakfast. The superior rooms face the St. Maria Maggorie church. These are much larger than the standard room we had in the past.

The hotel is four blocks south of the Termini train station and is one block from the Vittorio metro station. This is an advantage if you arrive at the Termini station and discover the taxis are on strike as we did in 1998. Most of the popular historical/religious sites in Rome can be reached by metro or bus from the Termini station.

The comment about the food running out at breakfast happens in hotels in Europe that have a bus load of tourists there. 30 people showing up at 7 AM can wipe out the food temporarily. I have seen this in Heidelberg, Rome, and Milan.

The hotel offers the airport limo service to everyone who makes a reservation there. If cost is no object take it, otherwise use the direct train service from the Termini station. The front desk people are quite helpful and it always pays to be polite and try to speak some Italian to them.

“Great Hotel!!!”

We stayed here from March 15th to 22nd. The room was great, staff were helpful, breakfast was good, and the location near the Termini Station was great. The hotel is in a great location for utilizing Rome's public transportation system! We will stay here the next time we're in Rome.

“Excellent Property”

My wife and I got married in Rome last Sept (only getting around to reviews now!) and stayed here for 2 nights. We had our reception there also.

All I can say was that the reception was the best day ever. The food was superb, the staff extremely courteous and accommodating and the location was perfect. Yes, rooms a little on the small side but who spends much time in the room when in Rome?

Also have to say that Management at the property was top class at all times.

“Clean, but unhelpful staff”

Mecenate Palace

The hotel was good value and very central. It is right next to the Termini station. The staff were not very friendly. We asked for information on getting to Ciampino airport by train. The man on the desk said that it was not easy and was better to go by their car seviuce, which cost a monstrous 55 euros! We found out about the train at the station, which was only 2 euros plus a short cab ride. Plus it only took 15 minutes. He clearly wanted to get a backhander from the car company.

“Hotel was very average, location isn't great”

Mecenate Palace

The hotel was very average, the rooms not being particularly large and the bar threw us out at midnight leaving us with nowhere in the vicinity to go.
We had to queue for breakfast and the food ran out which wasn't particularly impressive.
On the plus side, the rooms were clean, we were given complimentary bath robes (after requesting them) and the concierge was very helpful in terms of directions and sightseeing. The tube station is within walking distance for easy access to the sights.
The location isn't great for Rome, you would be far better situated near the Spanish Steps as there is an abundance of nightlife, shopping and restaurants in that area.
We wouldn't book again.
