Me, my husband and our 15 year son stayed at the Alpi mid January and were very pleased. We had a double superior room for me and hubby and a double room for our son. The regular double was quite small, but very clean and had everything a person should want for a short stay. We had a spa tub in our superior room and loved it! We also had a very large terrace. The hotel is easy to get to from Termini Station, took us about 5 minutes walk through the piazza.
The room service menu is quite complete and reasonably priced. The mini bar had typical items, but not as expensive as one might assume - 3 euros for a budwiser, 8 euros for a bottle of white wine. I cannot recommend the pay per view movies at 10 euros per film - yikes! We activated the inroom internet service at 8 euros, and it did not work - timed out on every site we tried to get on. The hotel manager took the charge off the bill.
The common areas of the hotel are white marble and very clean & pretty, although the lift was tiny. Reception is manned 24 hours, so any issues that may arise are taken care of immediately. We arrived at the hotel at noon and our rooms were ready, which was nice.
Breakfast was very nice with lots of cold buffet style choice. We ate quite a bit at 9am, and didn't want for lunch until 3 pm. The manager was kind enough to see to it we got our breakfast a bit earlier than it is normally served on our last morning so that we could get the bus back to the airport on time - very sweet of him.
There are many restaurants and food shops nearby the hotel, and with a fridge in the room we bought snack and drink items to have later in the evenings.
I personally thought the cost for what we got was very reasonable. We booked direct with the hotel website and paid 70 euros per night for the regular double room and 76 euros per night the superior room. Considering I've heard anything under 100 euros is hard to find, this was a bargain. Maybe the neighborhood is what keeps the prices down at this place - it's not the best but we didn't feel unsafe the entire stay or while walking around outdoors. Once inside the hotel or in any shop or restaurant, you would never guess there is a homeless person or two on the streets nearby.
Rome in general is very expensive. The sites are expensive to get into (14 euros per person for Vatican Museums) and a lot of the restaurants have either a cover charge, mandatory service charge or both that you might not find out about until it is time to pay the bill.
