We stayed at this property based on Tripadvisor favorable reviews and were not disappointed. We had an apartment, Casa Gialla, in a building about 5 minutes walk from the main hotel. The apartment has direct exterior access to a pedestrian street. It has a living room, dining area, full kitchen, two bedrooms and bath. An additional bedroom is available. One bedroom is fairly small.This unit is in an older building but has been entirely renovated with good taste. There is no direct lake view from this unit.

The only problem was the shower, not surprisingly for Italy. It is a jump and shout shower, too cold or too hot. The reason appears to be an instant hot water heater located in the kitchen at the other end of the apartment. Apparently these admirably energy efficient water heaters do not understand that a good shower experience requires more than limited disbursements of scalding hot water interspersed with waiting periods of cold water. We got clean, but not comfortably. Same experience at a $300 a night apartment in Venice!

The buffet breakfast at the hotel was included in our reasonable rate, 150 Euros a night. The staff at the hotel was efficient, accommodating, spoke English, and was very nice, including the proprietors Bettina and Egidio Mallone. The dining room terrace sits high above the lake with excellent views. We had a memorable dinner there as the sun set across the lake to the west. The food was very good. Signor Mallone is the padrone of the restaurant.

We will stay here again.

This was my favorite place that we stayed for our honeymoon in Italy. The hotel was so romantic. We reserved a lateral view room because the frontal lake views were all booked up. The frontal view rooms would be amazing!

The bed and the room is very simple...no frills (no air conditioning). The bathroom is newly re-done with pretty tile and is super clean. We had a little balcony that over looked the lake that was so fun to relax on.

The dinner that was prepared by the chef and hotel owner was one of the best we had in Italy. He altered his daily menu just for our vegetarian needs.

For a relaxing romantic time in Italy I would recommend staying there for a while. I was sad that we only booked two nights.

My husband and I stayed three nights in Varenna at the lovely Albergo Milano and feel we could not have made a better choice - we loved it. We love contemporary style and found the albergo to be so charming, lovely, clean and comfortable. We did have a small, lateral view room, but that was completely fine. If I come back in the summer, I will definitely reserve well in advance for one of the front terrace rooms, which looked incredible. As we were there Sun - Tues nights, we only had one dinner on Monday, but it was extremely delicous - the best meal we had in Varenna. The breakfast was quite nice as well, with fresh breads, fruit, meat, cheese, yogurt and pastries. We also really enjoyed the house cats, Sushi and Sashimi, and made friends with them! The only downside was that we had the misfortune of being in Varenna for some very rainy days - however, if we were going to be stuck inside, Albergo Milano was a very comfortable place to hang out.

I can't say enough about this hotel or the city of Varenna. This was the first stop on a 2 week honeymoon through Italy and let me tell you, this place is the way to recover from jetlag! Our room was clean and simple, but very comfortable. We had a room just up the steps with the side view of the lake - if you look at the pictures I took off our balcony, though, there's nothing to complain about. I could still open the door each morning and have a great view of the sparkling lake. The breakfast each morning was great - prosciutto, salami, cheese, bread, pastries, fruit...all to eat out on the patio overlooking Lago di Como. The dinner menu was amazing as well...I'm just so happy we decided to stay here and away from the craziness of Bellagio. It was perfect.
