My wife and I booked this hotel off of luxury link travel auction website and it certainly lived up to our expectations. We notified them that we were going to arrive early since we were on the morning flight into Venice. When we arrived at the hotel, they had our room ready for us and we were able to shower and begin our adventures in Venice.
The breakfast buffet is huge and full of breads, meats, cheeses, lots of fresh fruit and juices. They also serve scrambled eggs (might have been from a mix though) and bacon. The breakfast room itself is like dining in an 18th century ballroom. The maitre d' and her staff were very accomodating.
Our room was large, especially by European standards with plenty of closet space. The bathroom was double sink and here is the one drawback. The shower and tub were combined with only a small glass half door (typical in many European shower/tub combos). As a result, inexperienced bathers would likely get some water splashing around the bathroom and feel like you had to do your business in a more confined area.
The hotel is very conveniently located near the St. Mark's ACTV stop and the square itself. Despite being located in such a busy area, the hotel and room were very quiet which was nice when you are trying to escape the crowds.
Dinner at the restaurant was excellent and the service quite good. The concierge staff is helpful and can book concerts and dinner reservations.
As for Venice itself, be prepared to pay a fortune to eat. The cheapest restaurants are still expensive and you should expect to pay around 50-70 EUR per person to eat at a decent establishment. It's all part of the island economy here.
For transportation from the airport, we recommend buying the Alilaguna Oro (Gold) line ticket for 25EUR per person. We were actually transported by taxi with one other couple directly to Saint Marks.
Don't miss the Peggy Guggenheim museum if you like modern art, it was one of the highlights of our trip. Also, try to take in a concert at one of the smaller venues, it was a treat. We saw Interpreti Veneziani's rendition of Vivaldi's Quattro Staggione.
One final suggestion, we purchased the Red Map from Barnes and Noble prior to the trip and it was invaluable. Very easy to understand and portable.
Enjoy your trip.
