This is one of the nicest hotels I have stayed in and it really complements the magic of Venice. In defining nice...charming, cultural, clean, well located, good value.
Despite my concerns having read the posting about the renovation work, there really isn’t anything to worry about. The restoration work is absolutely essential to preserve the magnificent majolica tiled exterior and the result of the painstaking work is absolutely outstanding. The façade is now a beautiful reflection of its former glory and the interior of the hotel doesn’t disappoint either.
The rooms are all really comfortable and summarise the classy atmosphere of days gone by when the Lido was one of the leading destinations for the rich and famous. Everywhere is immaculate and the staff are all exceptionally friendly and helpful; not at all abrupt as I have found in other large hotels.
The breakfasts provide everything you need to set you up for a long day exploring the area, offering continental meats, cheeses, pastries alongside fresh fruit, cooked platters, cereals and breads. They are served from 7.30 to 10.30 so early starters and late sleepers are both catered for.
There is an American bar open which is a little on the pricey side, but you get to sit on the terrace and soak up the sun and atmosphere. There are also plenty of bars, trattoria and restaurants along the main street that the hotel sits on, so you are never short of choice.
The hotel is really well located; just a five minute walk from the Vaporetto stop and in the other direction there is a just a 10 minute walk to the beach. The Vaporetto run regularly over the centre of Venice and also all of the provincial islands and areas. A three day pass costs only €30 and is definitely worth investing in for the ACTV lines (the only service is doesn’t cover for unlimited travel is the service that links to the airport the Ailaguna service). The Hotel has a private area on the beach left of the Spiaggia public beach, which gets you a sunshade and two beach loungers for less than the public beach. So you can get enjoy the beauty of the main Venice Island with all the hustle and bustle of tourists and the mad chatter of passionate Italians then twin it with a relaxing day on the beach in true Mediterranean style. Having stayed in Venice four times before, this is the place I would go back to.
