“Great hotel in a Great location”

Grande Albergo Ausonia & Hungaria on Venice Lido Hotel

We booked to stay here after suddenly having to find a hotel at the last minute but found it a great surprise.

The botel is near the Vaparetto stop on the Lido with boats every 10 minutes into the centre of Venice. We had had a particularly busy week up to that point so it was really nice to come back somewhere quieter after the busy days in Venice. On one of the days we went ot the beach for the last part of the afternoon which made a fab. change and then only a 7 minute walk back to the hotel.

The rooms were clean in the hotel and the work mentioned in other reviews appeared to be complete (we didn't see any builders during our stay) The staff were very helpful and gave us information whenever we asked, inlcuding restaurant recommendations. There are plenty of restaurants to choose from on the Lido for the evening too.

We would recommend staying at this hotel on any trip to Venice

After reading some of the reviews we had mixed feelings about staying at this hotel but we were very pleasantly surprised.
The hotel looks great from the outside and is just as good inside.
The rooms are very comfortable and plenty of hot water!
The staff are very helpful and speak good English.
All in all I would recommend this hotel if you are looking to stay out of the main hustle of Venice.

Reading the reviews had me worried about the hotel, relieved to say I worried for nothing. We saw no evidence of the renos that were mentioned earlier and the restaurant was open for brunch which worked out perfectly for us. The location is away from the still large crowds around St. Marks which we really appreciated in the last few days of our vacation after a cruise. Room was on the fourth floor and faced a very quiet lane with Venice off in the distance. The vaporetto was fast ,efficient and a short walk from the hotel. Eateries abound on Lido and are quite reasonable compared to Venice. Hotel is nothing fancy inside but quaint and very clean throughout. We spent little time at the hotel so it was just fine.
Staff were friendly and quite willing to help when asked. Wished we could have stayed at the hotel longer and would return in a minute.

“Beautifully nostalgic; perfect for Venice”

This is one of the nicest hotels I have stayed in and it really complements the magic of Venice. In defining nice...charming, cultural, clean, well located, good value.

Despite my concerns having read the posting about the renovation work, there really isn’t anything to worry about. The restoration work is absolutely essential to preserve the magnificent majolica tiled exterior and the result of the painstaking work is absolutely outstanding. The façade is now a beautiful reflection of its former glory and the interior of the hotel doesn’t disappoint either.

The rooms are all really comfortable and summarise the classy atmosphere of days gone by when the Lido was one of the leading destinations for the rich and famous. Everywhere is immaculate and the staff are all exceptionally friendly and helpful; not at all abrupt as I have found in other large hotels.

The breakfasts provide everything you need to set you up for a long day exploring the area, offering continental meats, cheeses, pastries alongside fresh fruit, cooked platters, cereals and breads. They are served from 7.30 to 10.30 so early starters and late sleepers are both catered for.

There is an American bar open which is a little on the pricey side, but you get to sit on the terrace and soak up the sun and atmosphere. There are also plenty of bars, trattoria and restaurants along the main street that the hotel sits on, so you are never short of choice.

The hotel is really well located; just a five minute walk from the Vaporetto stop and in the other direction there is a just a 10 minute walk to the beach. The Vaporetto run regularly over the centre of Venice and also all of the provincial islands and areas. A three day pass costs only €30 and is definitely worth investing in for the ACTV lines (the only service is doesn’t cover for unlimited travel is the service that links to the airport the Ailaguna service). The Hotel has a private area on the beach left of the Spiaggia public beach, which gets you a sunshade and two beach loungers for less than the public beach. So you can get enjoy the beauty of the main Venice Island with all the hustle and bustle of tourists and the mad chatter of passionate Italians then twin it with a relaxing day on the beach in true Mediterranean style. Having stayed in Venice four times before, this is the place I would go back to.

“Had an exellent week in venice”

Had a good week long stay at the Hungaria Palace hotel, the room was small but clean and functional with air con and a fridge but the bed was very hard . We were very concerned about the reports of refurb work and the restaurant is closed unti October. However we did not have any problems with building noise and the location of the hotel is excellent. The street the hotel is on has plenty of restaurants, a supermarket and a very good ice cream parlour opposite. The vaperetto was only a 5 minute walk away and a 15 minute trip to St Marks Square, the sandy beach is also very close but does get very busy. The weather was hot and can be very humid, we found going in to Venice early was better as it was cooler and quieter. August is low season but St Marks Sq and the surrounding area was still packed during the day and into the evening. Staying on the Lido was very convenient as it got us away from the crowds when we wanted to and the prices were cheaper.
