Our third trip to Venice. Previously stayed in the main tourist areas, first time at a dreadful place, seond time at Ca Angeli on the Grand Canal and now on Giudecca Island.
Arrived at Treviso airport with Ryanair. A unique experience in that we will never do it again. A slow bus ride to the Piazzale Roma took well over anhour stopping at Mestre en route.
If you visit Venice, fly to Marco Polo and take a water taxi straight to your hotel It is expensive but is a memory that you will keep with you.
Best to buy a €25 two day pass for the Vaparetto water buses. Then you can hop on and off to you heart's content, it is all part of the magic of Venice.
The 42 is the quik boat to Palanca for the Domina Hotel. The 82 is slower - take your pick. From Palanca walk a few metresEast along the waterside and then take one of two narrow streets to your right. The one with the arched top is the second and wider option - watch out for dogs' mess they love their little dogs in Venice!!! A friendly local guessed we were looking for the Domina and directed us.
As buildings are not allowed to fix name noards to their frontage (thank goodness 'cos it would ruin the cuty) it can be tricky to spot your hotel. The Domina is just before your cross a bridge over the canal and is to your right. There is a pavement sign.
The hotel receptionist was welcoming (part of the job that sometimes gets forgotten). Our rooms were not like those on this website but perfectly OK and good value. Everything worked fine. There is internet ata price and a mini bar. TV channels are limited but what the heck, Venice is outside.
We had chosen Giudecca to save a few euros as we were picking up the tab for two rooms. Having stayed there I will return as it is quieter, has many more locals, some ordinary shops and pleasant eateries. Hop on the boat for Venice and the Lido.
Breakfast in the hotel was good. Would certainly return and would try to get a bigger room. During our stay they asked us if we would move into a room for four as they had overbooked. We declined but felt they should not have asked.
Strolled along Giudecca and found an even better hotel. It is called the Cipriani. Would like to stay there but room cost up to €8,000 per night. yes eight thousand.
