Great hotel perfect location. Close to everything. Amsterdam is a great city and the Kranapolsky was the best place to stay with its nice size rooms and location. It is easy to find, if you dont have too much luggage you can walk from the train station, it might be a quarter mile. Dont waste your money on a cab from the airport, the train is less than 5 euros per person to Amsterdam Centraal. Instant coffee and tea in the rooms and the usual overpriced mini-bar . I could not get the internet to work, supposedly its wireless but you can rent time on their computers which was cheaper for my limited use. The hotel includes 5 euros worth of free use of the business center computer. My Priceline room did not include breakfast and Im not much on breakfast anyway. Overall very comfortable.

first night experience: an extra small room with an awful smell coming from the bathroom ( almost vomited...)

reception: willing but insufficient
and as a cherry to the cake: they tried to charge 350 euros for a phone call that never took place. when i denied it they implied i was a liar... what a wonderful attitude! beware...

I agree with most of the reviews that this hotel is not a 5-star property.

Stayed three nights in August, booked via Priceline. I had a room in the "Royal Wing", which is actually a separate building connected the hotel via a corridor. The room was quite big and had large windows with a nice view to a very busy street. When the windows are closed you hardly hear the noise from ouside. A/C worked fine. Everything is a little bit dated, but OK. Mini-Bar prices and room-service is very expensive, (slow) internet connection in the business center is 0,35€/minute. Hotel bar is nice as well as the other public areas in the large hotel.

Staff is not overwhelmingly friendly but helpful, concierge service is available.

Location is absolutely excellent, walking distance to the main station and all other attractions.

Overall I belive that most of the people will be satisfied as long as they do not expect a 5* luxury experience. Get a good rate and expect a decent 4* property and you will probably be happy.

I know others have panned this hotel but we had the most wonderful experience and I would highly recommend the hotel to others. My husband and I booked a 3-night stay in Amsterdam via Priceline and honestly were a bit concerned when the Grand Hotel Krasnoposky accepted our bid due to some of the reviews, but it turned out to be the best stay we've ever had in the city. Check-in was fast, the staff was courteous, location was great and we were not only given a nice non-smoking room with a king-size bed - but we were given a suite! We also bid less than others mentioned on Tripadvisor.

One thing I would mention is that once our Priceline bid was accepted, we called the hotel to reserve a king-size bed in a non-smoking room.

In terms of location, the hotel is very close to the Red Light District but also within close walking distance to the canals in the "nicer" part of the city. We walked everywhere (did not take the tram once) and had a wonderful time. I was so sad to leave Amsterdam and I know we'll go back again and hope for the same hotel!
