“How was breakfast?”

Silken Berlaymont Hotel

Mar 25, 2008

As said before, the breakfast was OK but not if you think decent tea or coffee is part of it. Small cups, teabag and hot water urn on a DIY basis.

“Really very nice”

Silken Berlaymont Hotel

The Berlaymont was a very nice hotel. It's a bit out of the centre, but Brussels is so easy and quick to navigate with the underground it isn't a problem at all. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, the room more than adequate and the whole ambience was very pleasant. Worthy of note is the bar and the restaurant. Excellent breakfasts too with a wide choice.

We found Brussels to be a really nice city with no "fear" factor and lots to do. All in all a very enjoyable stay.

We are a married couple with young kids who have one weekend a year away(!) so it is quite important it is a decent time and this hotel certainly was. Wholly recommend it.

“Not bad but there are better and cheaper”

Silken Berlaymont Hotel

Jan 31, 2008

Surprisingly, given the number of trips I make to the EU quarter of Brussels, this week saw my first stay at the Silken, although colleagues use it regularly. I may have been a little jaded as I was beginning to go down with the flu but I thought as an overall impression that this was another image over substance sort of establishment. The room was cleanish (let down by a bit of a smell in the bathrooom) and the bed was comfortable. What i was not impressed by was on arrival having to walk miles from the reception to the lift including one area where there were steps only. Not good if you have luggage.

This is an expensive establishment. My booking was made by Expotel, who seem to specialise in gettign the public sector the worst possible deal, so I didn't get to sample breakfast .as, not unusually, we were paying more for room only than most people pay for B & B.

“definitely recommend”

great hotel right next to the Berlaymont European Commision building and the metro (4 stops to the city, gare centrale stop). Hotel is v.clean, v.comfortable and has a nice bar and restaurant, although staff were helpful they were not gushing with info when we asked for a few pointers when heading into the city.
From the hotel you can take the metro across the city or by taxi (max 10 euro).
There are a few nice restaurants and bars around the hotel area-which is buzzing on weekdays when the commission staff are about. The Italian restaurant next door to La Brace is much better, we found the staff and experience at La Brace extremely poor.
We would recommend this hotel to family and friends...

“4 nights in this hotel. Great breakfast and clean comfortable room.”

We stayed 4 nights during Christmas time so we were able to find really good prices through [--]. 318 euros for 4 nights.including breakfast We had a car so we didn't want to stay in the center, and this area was perfect because it had lots of parking place. On the same street there are several other hotels and First Euroflat residence was in front of us. But our hotel was best in the area in my opinion. We were in a double room with an extra bed so for us the room was a little tight, otherwise, for a couple the room space is fine. Maid service, reception , restaurant, great service .
Breakfast was above my expectations. Freshly squeezed orange juice (you have to make it yourself with the machine), waffles, crepes, and a variety of fresh breads (yum...!) , , ham, sausages, salmon, eggs, 20 choices of tea. .... nice dining area too you can eat and enjoy the garden. We spent one day in the spa, but there wasn't much. very small area . Not worth the 9 euros.
should be free. Another problem we had was that cars in front of the hotel were continuously broken into. The day we arrived the windows of 4 cars parked in front were broken. we informed the reception and asked them to call the police. they said it happened the day before too. The day we left we saw another car with it s window broken.
Otherwise, our stay in this hotel was a very pleasant one and we would come back .
