We decided to go to Brussels to surprise my partner for his 30th birthday. The party consisted of 4 members (2 female, 2 male) aged between 29 and 35. Before I talk about the Hotel, let me just say that we all found Brussels to be a great city break and would go back there again in an instant!
What would I say about the Hotel Stephanie?
Location - very good and what I have noticed about other reviews is that they haven't mentioned that there is a Taxi rank right outside the Hotel. We did intend on getting Trams throughout the weekend but when the Cab's were more or less 10 Euros and under, between 4 of you, it's very cheap indeed (although they do tend to drive in a someone agitated state!)
Staff - were ok, they did the job but I didn't feel like we were made to feel like valued customers. Would it hurt to perhaps wish you a pleasant stay? They don't seem to mind asking for your credit card on arrival! None were rude as such but I tend to like the personal touch.
Rooms - Like other reviewers have said, extremely spacious (we had one double room and one twin room on the 4th floor). Beds were comfy, separate WC and the bathroom was of a generous size. My two female companions on this trip did say that it is really handy having 2 separate sinks/mirrors for getting ready in the morning/evening etc. so this has to go down as an advantage. I would say the decor is a bit tired and in need of an update/refurb to bring it in line with the 21st century.
Food - We didn't eat in the Hotel so couldn't comment on this
Bar - Stefany's is marketed as a Cocktail Bar but we quickly found that one cocktail was enough from here. My sister ordered a Strawberry Daiquiri and it became quickly apparant that they didn't have a clue how to make one (Martini glass with pure rum isn't a cocktail!) and the Mojito's weren't impressive. The fact that they questioned my sister's judgement didn't help matters but perhaps this is the way of the Belgians!
Gym/Sauna - We didn't use these facilities so couldn't comment on this
Overall - The Hotel is slightly dated and if you are looking for a Hotel with a lively atmosphere, I wouldn't reccommend this particular establishment but having said that, the Hotel was cheap through Expedia, great location which are probably two of the most important things travellers look for and a tip for all you cocktail drinkers, walk out the front door, turn left and 2 minutes down the road you have the Conrad Hotel who do FANTASTIC cocktails and has an altogether different atmosphere (although at 15 EUR per cocktail, they had better be good!)
I hope people find this review helpful.
