“Great location, above average Hotel”

Hotel Bristol Stephanie

We decided to go to Brussels to surprise my partner for his 30th birthday. The party consisted of 4 members (2 female, 2 male) aged between 29 and 35. Before I talk about the Hotel, let me just say that we all found Brussels to be a great city break and would go back there again in an instant!

What would I say about the Hotel Stephanie?
Location - very good and what I have noticed about other reviews is that they haven't mentioned that there is a Taxi rank right outside the Hotel. We did intend on getting Trams throughout the weekend but when the Cab's were more or less 10 Euros and under, between 4 of you, it's very cheap indeed (although they do tend to drive in a someone agitated state!)

Staff - were ok, they did the job but I didn't feel like we were made to feel like valued customers. Would it hurt to perhaps wish you a pleasant stay? They don't seem to mind asking for your credit card on arrival! None were rude as such but I tend to like the personal touch.

Rooms - Like other reviewers have said, extremely spacious (we had one double room and one twin room on the 4th floor). Beds were comfy, separate WC and the bathroom was of a generous size. My two female companions on this trip did say that it is really handy having 2 separate sinks/mirrors for getting ready in the morning/evening etc. so this has to go down as an advantage. I would say the decor is a bit tired and in need of an update/refurb to bring it in line with the 21st century.

Food - We didn't eat in the Hotel so couldn't comment on this

Bar - Stefany's is marketed as a Cocktail Bar but we quickly found that one cocktail was enough from here. My sister ordered a Strawberry Daiquiri and it became quickly apparant that they didn't have a clue how to make one (Martini glass with pure rum isn't a cocktail!) and the Mojito's weren't impressive. The fact that they questioned my sister's judgement didn't help matters but perhaps this is the way of the Belgians!

Gym/Sauna - We didn't use these facilities so couldn't comment on this

Overall - The Hotel is slightly dated and if you are looking for a Hotel with a lively atmosphere, I wouldn't reccommend this particular establishment but having said that, the Hotel was cheap through Expedia, great location which are probably two of the most important things travellers look for and a tip for all you cocktail drinkers, walk out the front door, turn left and 2 minutes down the road you have the Conrad Hotel who do FANTASTIC cocktails and has an altogether different atmosphere (although at 15 EUR per cocktail, they had better be good!)

I hope people find this review helpful.

“Excellent hotel in a good location”

Hotel Bristol Stephanie

5 of 5 stars
Switzerland
Feb 21, 2008

When you are booking a room at the last minute, you never quite know how the luck of the draw will go... and I can tell you the draw went well this time!

Transport: Perhaps it seems odd to be catching public transport to a 5 star hotel, but my aspirations to live the five star lifestyle are not matched by my income. It was pretty easy to get there: Take the metro to stop "park" and change to the number 92 or 94 tram. Hop off at "Stephanie" and continue walking up Avenue Louise till you hit the hotel.

My room was nice and large. Separate toilet to the bathroom, with a nice generous bath. The bed was a kingsized bed with lots of pillows of every fluffiness so you could find the perfect pillow for you. There were two separate duvets on the bed; something I find slightly odd, but does prevent arguments over who is stealing the covers! The bed was a bit on the over-bouncy side for my taste, but by no means saggy.

As well as the usual comforts, there were some unusual and useful features to the room. The bathroom had a clothesline. The room also had a cupboard that opened up to reveal two hotplates, a sink and fridge, although there were no pots, pans, plates or cutlery. I guess in the past the hotel offered these rooms as serviced apartments. There is an ironing board and iron in the room, and free internet connection. Oh, I almost forgot! There were tea/coffee making facilities, including hot chocolate (very civilised these Belgians!).

I did visit the fitness centre which is not large, but has a good range of exercise machines, sauna, jacuzzi, and was impeccably clean.

I was very happy with every aspect of my stay.

Courtesy consumables: Soap, bath gel, conditioning shampoo, moisturiser, tea/coffee.

“Good value for money”

Hotel Bristol Stephanie

We are just back from Bristol Stephanie and had a lovely stay. The hotel was great value at only EUR 99 per night. If it had been much more expensive I would not have thought it good value as the decor was very traditional/old fashioned. I wouldn't call it a 5 star, more 4 star in terms of accomodation but the rooms are very large and very clean. Breakfast was fine but you'd expect a little more from a 5*. Public areas are not that extensive. I would stay here again but only if we got a similar deal. At EUR 99 its a real find!

“Excellent place to stay”

Hotel Bristol Stephanie

We stayed for four nights at the Bristol Stephanie and found it to be an excellent hotel. The room, upgraded without a request to do so, was very large by European standards. It was clean and furnished well. The staff was helpful. Really good price for the room. We did not eat at the restaurant, feeling it was overpriced, but there are plenty of places to eat nearby. Close to the metro and shopping. Well worth a visit.

“Great hotel to stay in”

Hotel Bristol Stephanie

Sep 25, 2007

Satyed at this clean, centrally located hotel Sept 13 - 15, 2007 and found it to be a beautiful spot. On arrival (short taxi ride from train station) we were upgraded to a business room on the front of the hotel. The room was extremely clean, had beautiful wood floors, separate toilet and tub/shower/sink facilities. Even though the room was on the front of the hotel, it was extremely quiet. Ate breakfast at local place 'EKKI' which was great and subway system was about 2 blocks away. Easy to get to the train station on the subway. It's about a good 20 minute walk to the Grand Place for sightseeing. The Internet access (pay for minutes of use) in main lobby was not working while we were there but other than that have no complaints about this hotel.
