“CREDIT CARD FRAUD AT THIS HOTEL *** PLEASE READ***”

Athens Hilton

We recently visited this hotel 4th June and had dinner in the roof top restaurant. We presented our credit card to pay and were told our card had been declined. Puzzled as to why the card had been declined we asked to speak to the manager. Eventually we reluctantly handed over a second card to pay. Just over an hour later whilst still at the hotel our card was being used at other locations in Athens and within a period of three hours more than 2,000 euro's had been charged . This is being investigated as I write I still don't know what the final damage is going to be but I BEG you DO NOT LET YOUR CARD OUT OF SIGHT at this hotel as there are obviously unscrupulous members of staff at this hotel who are copying your details and are very quick to put them to use

Following the comment of Jc1967Uk with the Title "Credit Card Fraud at this Hotel", describing an incident of misuse of the guest's credit card, in our roof top restaurant, we would like to inform Trip Advisor users, that we have never received any complaint like this, neither during the stay of the gentleman nor during all the years of operation of the Hilton Athens Hotel. Having investigated this matter internally we believe that none of the described has actually happened.

“Met expectations but a few drawbacks”

Basically, this hotel is what you would expect from Hilton in a major city. The lobby/front desk is ultra-modern (spartan and cold with marble everywhere and low slung sofas). Check in took about a minute and our Hilton status got us upgraded to the executive floor. Only disappointments were that the executive lounge snacks and breakfast were not as nice as other Hiltons, and the location is not walkable to any sites (but is near subway and bus lines). Be sure to take plenty of Euros. Prices for everything in the hotel are astronomical.

“The most prestigious hotel in Athens”

Athens Hilton

5 of 5 stars
The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland!

The Athens Hilton is the most prestigious hotel in Athens. If you tell any local that you're staying here, they will be very impressed. And it is an impressive hotel, particularly when compared with other Athens hotels which don't come close.

Rooms are very modern and fresh, the large pool area is a great way to cool off after a sticky day of sightseeing, and the breakfast is of the usual high quality of European Hiltons. The only real problem here is that prices are extremely high for any incidentals. Of course room service is always pricey, but this was beyond pricey. And the minibar? 6 euros for a can of peanuts!

The only other issue is that despite the hotel's reputation that "you can touch the Acropolis from the Hilton", I never saw the Acropolis during my stay. My room faced the street, the pool was too low, and I didn't dare go to the Galaxy Bar when expecting a beer to cost more than what I earn in a day.

Still, if you've stayed at the Hilton, you'll be too spoiled to ever stay anywhere else in Athens. Just be sure to eat out (there's plenty of great places to eat just 1 metro stop away or 20 minutes' walk away).

“Lovely Hotel--decide if it is worth the price”

After almost 2 weeks in Greece, my husband and I were thrilled to be back on "western" territory and were hoping for all the comforts of home at the Hilton in Athens. It delivered. The rooms were spacious, recently renovated. The balcony was a wonderful break from the streets and the bathroom was a joy. Spend 2 weeks showering with a hand held one and no shower curtain and you'll REALLY love the "rain shower" effect here! It's a quite pricey hotel and the onsite amenities were pricey, too. We enjoyed two drinks in the Galaxy Bar to enjoy the great view of the Acropolis and set a new record for price we've paid for a single drink! But we were within walking distance of many places where things could be achieved much more cheaply. The concierge/guest relations executive was WONDERFUL. She didn't press us into eating at the overpriced hotel restaurants--instead she directed us to a lovely place nearby that had many more locals than tourists.
Additionally, the hotel is steps from a Metro stop which makes getting around town and to/from the airport cheaper than at many other places. We walked to all the sites, but the metro to the airport was great.
If you can get by the initial sticker shock (which unfortunately seems to be the going rate for nice hotels in Athens) then this hotel is a wonderful spot.
