“Lovely hotel in residential neighborhood, but not near center”

Athens Atrium Hotel

3 of 5 stars

I stayed in this hotel one night in Sept 2007. Although I liked the hotel well enough, I probably wouldn’t stay here again, but only because of the location.

Positives:
– The hotel is in a pleasant residential neighborhood, with real Greeks going about their everyday business. :-) Quite a contrast to the Syntagma/Plaka area. I took an evening stroll and sat on a bench in the nearby park, watching children playing, people chatting, people hanging out laundry, and so on. It was the only time during my Athens stay that I felt I was in a real neighborhood, and it was most enjoyable.
– The A/C was excellent, nice and cold, just the way I like it.
– The hot water temperature and pressure in the shower were both excellent.
– The beds were firm but comfortable for me.
– The room size was reasonable (I was in a single).
– My room was quiet, with no street noise.
– The staff was helpful and friendly.
– There was a delightful family-owned taverna right by the hotel (just a door or two down on the same side of the street), who served me a wonderful vegetarian meal (not that easy to come by in Greece); one of the family members brought out his two young children to meet the Americans, and they were all charming.

Negatives:

– Although I liked the residential neighborhood this hotel is in, the location is quite some distance from the center of Athens, where all the sights and tourist activities are. (I’m an enthusiastic walker, but I don’t like having to take public transportation or having to walk a long distance to get to city centers when I travel; I prefer to spend that time sightseeing.) For this reason alone, I probably wouldn’t stay here again.
– The breakfast buffet was on the basic side, and both of the baked goods I tried were stale.
– My taxi driver had some difficulty in finding the hotel, both because of the one-way streets in the area and because he said he knew it by an earlier name. You might want to have a little map of the hotel in hand before taking a taxi to it.

Summary:
It’s too bad this hotel isn’t more centrally located, or I would happily stay here again. (Of course, if it were, it wouldn’t be a charming neighborhood hotel.) As it is, I wouldn’t stay here again, but only because of the location. If you don’t mind being away from the center of town, and would like to stay in a residential neighborhood, the Athens Atrium might be just the hotel for you.

“Good hotel, bad location”

Athens Atrium Hotel

Nov 11, 2007

The hotel itself is very good, seems new, the rooms are quite small but nicely decorated, 4 stars it is. The only bad point is the location - it is TOO FAR from the city center and quite hard to find.

“The best choice in Athens!”

Athens Atrium Hotel

I have been staying in Athens Atrium several times and find this place just relaxing as it must be in Athens either you come for tourism or for buisness! Friendly and helpfull staff, smily service, very spacefull room and bathroom, generous breakfast, everything you need for a short stay in the bathroom, nice tv and Internet room....a place with a nice atmosphere after a busy day or an exhausting walk in the town. Home....far from home!. The situation of the hotel couldn't be better: in a quiet neibourghood very close to Syngrou avenue (2minutes walk) where you can take a bus or a taxi and be in the center in Syntagma square in less than ten minutes!

“Very nice hotel!”

I stayed here with my boyfriend after spending 10 days island hopping. We had missed 2 flights getting home due to the ferries being cancelled due to high winds and arrived at the hotel at 2 am in the morning after a horrible 7 hr ferry journey. We really liked the hotel. Yeah prob isn't the most convenient of locations and a taxi from the port cost us 20 euros (we would have paid anything at that time night!). The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room itself was really lovely and very clean - just what was needed after a grubby ferry. Breakfast was included too which again was very good. Would def stay here again and may splash out on a room with a jacuzzi next time !
