This year was my second trip to Stockholm and technically my second visit to Skansen. Lat year I was on a land tour and opted for an optional tour to Skansen but the problem was we were there no more than an hour. This year we took a cruise and when we ported in Stockholm, went off on our own to Skansen. We spent four hours there touring the historic buildings, viewing the animals and just walking. It was fantastic! There is so much to see, an hour or two is not enough. If you have a free afternoon in Stockholm, spend it all in Skansen.

If you are going to visit Stockholm, you must visit the Skansen open-air museum. It is absolutely fascinating to not only see, but to go inside of all of the historical buildings they have there, from farm houses to churches to shops to manor houses. There are shops where you can watch glass blowing and other early crafts (and of course buy their wares). As a whole, Skansen is somewhat touristy (especially compared to a similar open-air museum in Helsinki), but still fascinating and well worth visiting. It is easily accessible from downtown Stockholm buy public transit.

Skansen is an open air museum that´s situated on an island called Djurgården, very close to the city center. I´ve been there many times and think that it´s so worth visiting it again and again in autumn, spring, summer and winter . Animals, farms, old houses, the concerts, the tradicions...Just don´t miss it . It´s Sweden in a nutshell .
