“A Very Special Building!”

City Hall (Stadshuset)

Stockholm's City Hall (Stadshuset) is one of the gems of this amazing city (one that should not be missed). The building was inspired by Italian renaissance and styles. The building was inaugurated on 23 June 1923, exactly 400 years after Gustav Vasa's arrival in Stockholm. This building is still used for city council needs and holds the offices of city council members. However, the main attraction is the Blue Hall that holds the annual Nobel Prize Banquet. There are multiple tours that run in many languages that last about 1 hour. The guides are expertly trained and comical as well. There is also a tower that provides stunning views of Stockholm. This is a great place to begin your time in Stockholm!

“Spectacular View, but not for all”

The day i went to Stadshuset it was very windy and cloudy, so it wasnt the best day. The Guided Tour is quite good (various languages), they talk about the nobel prize, architecture, what each room is used for and who painted the murals and how they were inspired, it goes for about an hour.

The best part is getting to the top of the building, a fee of SEK30. BUT its not for all!! I'm very fit and i found it a little strenous. You first take the lift to level 6 and walk the entire way up! Its a square brick tower, so to walk up, you walk uphill in a square direction, round and round and its VERY narrow! there are little holes from the brick which has wind gushing through!!

But once you get to the top (360degree outdoor deck) and see the view of stockholm, its well worth it. Go on a nice sunny day.

For Roxette fans - this is where they filmed Fading Like a Flower!

This is a fine piece of modern architecture with Italian renaissance influences but also typical Scandinavian. Very elegant and situated on an absolutely magnificent location. Together with Vasaa Museum a must see when you are visiting Stockholm.

Don't be put off by the outside as this fully deserves it's "must see" ratings in the guide books.

It is absolutely awesome inside but I wish the guides (you can only go on guided tours) would let you linger a bit longer. I realise it's a working environment but at the weekends a bit longer would have been nicer.

The walls and ceilings are quite outstanding in their colours and patterns and you can easily see why the Nobel banquet is held here. You can even eat the previous years banquet menu although it will cost in the region of £100 per person and you have to give 24 hours notice.

We had hoped to go up tower but it was closed (late Sep 2006)for renovations.

Stockholm City Hall looks like a palace instead of goverment building. This is where the noble prizes are awarded. The staircase is notable as is the banquet hall. One of my favorite tours. the end
