“Beware”

Port Palace Hotel

I booked this hotel through Splendia and that is where the problems began...the website said the room was 70 sq mts...it was not even close. We requested two beds, we did not get them...I realize that this is not the fault of the hotel but the response and treatment we got from the front desk was HORRENDOUS, I have never witnessed such horrid lack of attention or clear lack of respect...

The room was dirty, the carpet stained and we had to call room service for the towels as the ones in our bathroom were all ripped at the edges, they sent new ones, I suppose they think if you don't complain give em the old ones...then we had to complain how hot it was, well the breaker for the ac is in a lock box outside the door and again unless you don't complaint they dont turn it on.....they are MUCH better choices in Monaco and I would never go back to this dump.

“Great location, nicely designed hotel, tres gentil”

Stayed here for two nights. Amazing view of the Monte Carlo port, nice to have breakfast in the bay window, watching the sun rise and the activity on the yachts below. Huge bed, very comfortable, slept very well. Jacuzzi tub with separate shower. LARGE room, 42" plasma, and overall nice design. Quick walk to the Casino with an entry point on the 6th floor, Grimaldi Forum, with the port as your front yard. I'd easily stay here again. Service could have been a bit more bright, but it did not change my overall opinion.

“Not impressed - snooty pretentious hotel”

Following three wonderful days in Nice we moved on to Monte Carlo and
checked into the Port Palace Hotel. We had booked a first floor superior harbour view room which is slightly cheaper than the other floors but still pricey.

On first impressions the room was good but the problem was in the air
conditioning which did not work. Due to very inclement weather in Monte Carlo eg storms and heavy rain I wanted to turn the air conditioning off. The only way this could be achieved was for the handy man to come up and switch it off. 4 hours later it was back on again and it was then that I realised it didn't work and could only be worked centrally. This is not what you expect in this standard of hotel. On the last night the air conditioning started again at 5am which was a not very pleasant wake up call.

On the two evenings when we tried to use the 6th floor bar we were turned away and told that there was a private party takinhg place and
the only way we could get a drink was room service. This was despite on both occasions arriving well after the party was winding down.

Overall I just got the impression that this hotel and perhaps Monte Carlo in general is not interested in independent travellers - we headed back each day by train to Nice where the atmosphere is fantastic with none of the clinical and snooty atmosphere of Monte Carlo.

“Lovely - if you can afford it”

Port Palace Hotel

4 of 5 stars
Sydney, Australia

We stayed at Port Palace for a couple of nights. It's a lovely hotel in a great position on the harbour edge. The rooms are spacious, comfortable and very well equipped.

I was less than impressed with the reception staff, however. We arrived early and our room was not ready - OK, that was expected - but when we returned some hours later it still took too long to sort out our room and find the keys. I felt that the staff were cool and detached, as opposed to friendly and involved as at other hotels we used.

Breakfast is a problem. Don't expect to find a cheerful little cafe to have a leisurely breakfast, that seems to be unknown in Monte Carlo. That leaves you with the hotel restaurant where, from our experience, breakfast is an expensive disaster.

Another word of warning - we arrived in Monte Carlo by train and it was impossible to get a taxi from the train station. We were lucky enough to get a lift from a kind stranger or I don't know what we would have done. Apparently the taxis are interested only in airport jobs.

Despite all this we had a great time in Monte Carlo and I would stay at Port Palace again.

“Overall a solid place to stay, good location”

Port Palace Hotel

4 of 5 stars
San Francisco
Aug 10, 2007

This place is a nice, solid choice for Monte Carlo. It's actually a "Botique" Hotel, with cool rooms that have plasma TV's

It's a short walk from this hotel to the Casino, and right in front is the Yacht docking area.

It's also very close to a bunch of restaurants, as well as the bus line to take you to/from Nice Airport. On the 6th floor of this hotel there is a very nice high end restaurant with a great view of Monte Carlo.
