“Not a fan”

Hotel Am Schubertring

Jul 2, 2008

We stayed here for 3 nights in March and after reading the enthusiastic reviews were confident that we have bagged a winner.
Whilst the location cannot be faulted (the centre of Vienna was less than 10 minutes walk), we were disappointed with the hotel itself. The surly chain smoking man who checked us in gave me the creeps and was pretty unhelpful. Upon checking into our room we noticed that despite the request for a double room, we had two single beds pushed together - with one being about an inch and a half higher than the other. As a result I was able to wave down at my partner every morning! We requested extra bed linen and were given two single blankets - presumably to go under the two single bed spreads we had each.
The bathroom was small, especially compared to the pictures on the website and the breakfast room was earily silent. We honestly felt like we were staying in a hotel that was a cross between Fawlty Towers and the Shining.
Perhaps we aren't suited to boutique hotels and the location is excellent but we found our trip to magnificant Vienna was somewhat overshadowed by an unfortunate hotel.

This hotel is situated on the Ringstrasse, no more than a 15 min walk from the railway station linking the city to the airport via the excellent CAT train. All of central Vienna can be accessed on foot from the hotel, particularly if you like to walk. The rooms are very smart as are the bathrooms, everything is spotlessly clean. There is a small bar on the ground floor which is worth a visit. The only thing we would take issue with with regard to previous reviews is the standard of the breakfast. We found it to be average at best. Fortunately there are excellent cafes nearby including the Schwarzenburg accross the road. All in all a very nice hotel. We are unlikely to return to Vienna any time soon but if we did we would certainly use this hotel again.

“Perfect Location”

Hotel Am Schubertring

Hotel is perfectly situated to see all the sites. Rooms are clean, quiet and the junior suites have settees, small refridge and stove tops. Bathrooms are beautifully tiled with shower and tub. Beds are firm and have twin size duvets. Found my husband wasn't able to steal my blanket - may try this at home! Breakfast is more than ample; eggs, hot sausage, rolls, cereal, fruit, juice, cheese, meats. Rooms apparently are in a circular pattern, thus are in somewhat of a maze and you need to follow the signs, but that is the only negative i can cite. Would stay here again!

“Good value older hotel”

Hotel Am Schubertring

Apr 20, 2008

I stayed here for 2 nights during a business trip. The decor is quite old fashioned, but pleasant, and the bathroom is spotless.

The location is fine - within 10 minutes walk of St Stephen's Cathedral, and also the Hofberg. The breakfast buffet was very good.

It is extremely good value for money. The only negative point (apart from the single duvets on the double bed - which appears to be standard in Austria) is that there is no shampoo in the bathroom, only a built in dispenser of shower-gel, which I find useless for washing my hair. With the ridiculous new airline restrictions on toiletries this is a problem.

I would recommend this hotel - it is a good value 3+ star hotel in central Vienna.

“Charming Shubertring”

Hotel Am Schubertring

5 of 5 stars
Milwaukee, Wisconsin
Mar 30, 2008

We loved the Schubertring. It's in the perfect location for touring, the gentleman at the reception desk was very kind and helpful and the room was very comfortable. LOCATION: The Schubertring is located on the Ringstrasse in the heart of the city center (1 block away from the Grand and Imperial Hotels). ACCOMODATION: Our beautifully decorated triple room (3 twins) contained a skillfully updated bathroom that maintains the hotel's historic charm. The complimentary breakfast included warm and cold meat/egg selections and fresh fruit, vegetables and pastries. STAFF: The support staff was also very friendly, although few of them spoke/understood English.
